Welcome to the new iLounge!

Over the past six and a half years, Apple’s digital media device family has grown from one iPod and iTunes to include iPhone, Apple TV, and much more: today, there are four different current-generation iPods in 24 different versions to choose from, new updates to iTunes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and game-changing software updates for both the iPhone and Apple TV.
While iLounge has grown dramatically to cover all of these products, our main page has been bursting at the seams trying to handle it all. Comprehensive looks at new product releases, reports on different countries and companies, reader-submitted photographs, news, and tutorials have all had to fight for very limited real estate, sometimes disappearing from our main page within only a day of initial posting. If you’ve been looking for something that appeared on iLounge only a day or two ago, chances are good that you had to search for it.
Our new design remedies that. Sit back, or click once on the expanded main page, and you’ll find that all of our biggest and latest stories are right in front of you. Expanded feature, review, and news pages have more room for larger photographs, and more readable text. A bigger, easier navigation bar provides faster access to the site’s many sections. Access to our downloadable publications, created to help you get quick answers to your iPod/iPhone use and accessory buying questions, is always available at the bottom of the screen. And soon, you’ll find an improved translation feature that better converts our content into different languages, as well as major reworkings of the many section satellite pages linked from the main page.
We’re still tweaking a number of the site’s features, including fixing some broken links, and adding back things that have disappeared from the main page during the transition. Please report any serious bugs you discover to dennisl@ilounge.com, as we work to bring the new iLounge up to full speed. Enjoy!

It’s nice to see that you chose not to change the color scheme. Everything looks great.

What did you do, steal Apple’s Web designers or something?
Great work with the new site, AMAZING!

Really beautyful!
Although, I think the footer is really annoying. It shouldn’t stick to the bottom of the window.

Wow, I really love the new site. It’s very beautiful. One of the few redesigns that incorporates style and functionality. Very nice

FYI, getting some weird bugs in Safari 3.0 on OS X. Adds are overlapping the bottom…

Funny, it wouldn’t let me leave a longer comment before…Anyway the layout is easy to navigate and very crisp. The only critique (sounds nicer than complaint!) is that there is that annoying footer on the bottom that eats up space on the window and the stories on the main window are now truncated and without pictures even when you click “long” instead of “short” view. Actually I saw no difference when I toggled between those views. Personally i like the “long” view and then the only reason I need to click over to the actual article is if I want to read comments, now it would appear one would have to click on the article to get past a certain point.

I second that the footer is annoying. On widescreen devices with limited vertical resolution it is hogging valuable screen real estate.

The redesign is attractive, but it uses too much of the (more valuable) vertical space for the footer. With the ads spanning the top of the page and the footer at the bottom, I get only a slim sliver of content in the middle of my powerbook screen.

Adding in my vote, too, that the footer is very annoying. Everything else with the design looks great, but the “sticky” footer has got to go.

I also agree that overall the new design looks good, but the footer takes up too much room to be always on the screen. Just leave it at the bottom, where it belongs.

Site redesign looks great!
I find the footer annoying, takes up too much space on the screen, and in my opinion doesn’t add value to the site so is a waste of valuable screen real estate. Dump the footer please.

I agree, on a laptop it takes up too much real estate. The new footer will be replaced with a traditional footer. Thanks for the feedback and compliments.

Really, really sleek and still iLounge-y. Like the new functionality. I would agree about the footer taking up too much real estate for very little value, but other than that, this design is a great change to the site.

Kill the footer.
Nicely done, but have to spend more time on it.
Maybe another cup of coffee will help

I love it! The “footer” as other have to referred to it (don’t know if that is the correct erm or not) is kind of weird, but it’s not that bad. THis is so much better and easier to look at. Kudos iLounge
