What happened to iLounge yesterday?

We were Slashdotted!
What does that mean? The well known technology website Slashdot linked to iLounge’s recent article “Taking apart the iPod mini,” and the traffic overwhelmed us. Even before the Slashdot link, iLounge was popular enough to receive over 3.5 million page views a month, but the influx of simultaneous connections was more than our servers could handle. After yesterday’s incident, iLounge garnered over 200,000 page views, a new one day record.
Big thanks to Slashdot for the link, but sorry to our usual readers for the temporary loss of availability to the iLounge.com site. The site seems to be loading at usual speeds now.
Our apologies for the inconvenience this had caused.

It’s a miracle that people online have any sense of humor. Do I need to enclose it in <humor></humor> tags so that you can see it?

I’d like to know what Slash Dot is running as servers and its specs… maybe iPodlounge could upgrade to their level, but I doubt it. I suspect it’s very expensive.

iPodlounger,
./ is running on a cluster (home-maintained by the founders) and I guess the hardware cost would be dwarfed by the bandwidth bills….
