What is it? Contest by Rain Design - Winners Announced

Three Product Winners Announced

Prize: Rain Design iWoofer

Most Accurate Description? I’ll try.

It is:
- an iPod dock with speakers and lights
- seen from below
- facing right (in the picture)
- approximately 5 inches in diameter
- iPod’s signature white and silver colors
- meant to showcase the iPod, like many of Rain’s other products are designed to showcase Apple products

It has:
- four legs to elevate it about 1 inch.
- four blue LEDs to create a cool under-glow effect
- some similarities to JBL’s OnStage, except better
- a port on the back (left in picture) for computer-to-iPod cable
- volume controls

It does not have:
- bluetooth
- a remote

It’s a simple iPod docking/speaker station that allows the iPod to play music through the built-in speakers, sync to a computer, and charge its battery. The iPod sits on top, allowing full access to its menus and music. And the ambient blue glow from beneath gives it a sleek futuristic look.

Its a speaker system for the ipod viewed from the underneath. The blue light is projected onto whatever surface it is placed on and may dim in and out or change colors while playing music or synching with itunes. Has four metalic legs and the controls are on the left side of the image in between the 2 metalic circles which are speakers. The black center is the sub-woofer. Charges, syncs, docks, and plays the ipod.

As the compnay mainly produces stands, it would be probable that its first product for the iPod is also a stand. It’s in the shape of a ball, and then it has four legs underneath, and you stick the iPod into the dock on top (in the middle - so it sticks up). But that’s obvious. It is also a powerful speaker system with a built-in sub-woofer. We see the air-intake on the lefthand side, and the big, dark area in the middle is the subwoofer element, probably a 6? or 8?. It will be awesome, and I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

This ipod dock is not just any ordinary dock, as you can tell from every ones guesses. This iPod dock, has a motorized docking door system. Just place your iPod on the white pad, located on the side, and hidden doors will come out and wrap around the iPod docking it for you.
But thats not all this little puppy can do. Not only can this device recharge and sync your dock-able iPod, it can also use its two built in speakers to fill, your room with music. But what if you have the Apple Express Base Station with AirTunes, it will allow you to connect to your Wi Fi base station, to broad cast your music through out your house. Or if you have a pare of Bluetooth enabled headset, the base station will also connect to those for personal use.
The system has four blue LED’s that indicate the systems status; Power/charging, data syncing, audio broadcasting, and VC. VC? What the heck is VC, you may ask your self. Well with all this functionality, comes the simplicity of only one button. Thats right only ONE button, that simply turns the device on and off. But you control every function of this device via Voice Command. Just say the name of your iPod when its docked, and then speak what you want the dock to do, and it will do it.

So just when you thought that, they went to the extent of iPod technology, they make something even better.

To me, it looks like its the bottom of a speaker system that would be in the shape of a rain drop when you looked at it straight on. The system looks held up on four legs, which give it support to sit on a surface. An ipod, probably the new video ipod will be able to dock on the top of the rain drop, and play music through the speakers on the sides and the subwoofer on the bottom. On the side bottom of the rain drop there will be a usb port and variuos other ports such as audio and video which will allow you to connect it to any t.v. device. I think the blue lights on the bottom of the drop will flash to the beat and rhythm of the music producing an underglow affect on whatever surface the rain drop is placed.

Looks like a holder where you can control the iPod via a remote control, and when music is playing the lights start blinking with the rythm of the song. And also sends wireless audio signals to a little device that you plug into any speaker system, so you have a cleaner setup,. You can plug it in the computer to charge and update the ipod and also to the power outlet so you can charge it without moving it from the base. That’s all.

It is a stand with lights that sync to the music which is playing.

it is a wireless video management unit. it allows you to send video and/ or music to devices. the ipod sits in the middle of the unit and is iluminated by the blue lights that flicker and flash. and by the way did i mention its portable.

speaker system shown from below….the speakers are similar to bose’s sounddeck? and the light have the option to flash to the music, music like neon in a car can. the ipod will rest inside like in a gyroscope that’d you’d see in space camp

I think that it’s an interactive toy with ipod connectivity. Probably looks like some sort of space age robopet or something. I’m guessing it plays music, dances, and lights up to the music.

You plug multiple ipods into the four sides, and the thing plays random tracks from each and displays the info in the centre black bit.

It is a home speaker system. The picture is looking at it from the bottom and what you see is the main speaker with lights around it and the 4 legs of the stand and it also is a dock for your ipod to charge and sync with your computer. If it were right side up it would be a foot or so off the ground and could be considered portable.

I think it is a bedside alarm clock with speakers that stands on four legs like a table. You dock your iPod on top and the blue lights are on the bottom so you can set it before going to sleep and turn off the alarm in the dark if you still need to catch a few more Zs.

This could only be ONE of TWO things:

•1 Either it is a spherically-ionizing Goa’ould toilette (obvious from the blue “sphincter ring”) favored by non-humanoid aliens everywhere.

•2 It’s a brand new, high-tech, light-up, whizz-bang COMPUTER STAND!

My money’s on number 2 (no pun intended).

May the farce be with you…....

That is definitely a video player for use with the Ipod Video.  Has some cool lights

Posted by Dan Buske on December 9, 2005 at 5:40 AM (PDT)

looks like an external speaker, sitting on it’s side, with a neon undercoat when sitting flat on a table, and inserting the ipod in the middle of the unit, and when inserted the neon light turns on.

It looks like a cute little halloween costume for my ipod.  Ipods have feelings too and want to go trick-or-treeting with the rest of us!

Posted by Tommi Brandt on December 9, 2005 at 6:01 AM (PDT)

I guess this isn’t as complex. To my mind this is a “flashing dock”, that needs obviously an energy source, to light the BACK that we are shown on the picture. There may be other features as already written, but iThink that the main function is to accompany the music you’re listening to.
Another sensible explanation is that this is a fake, to gently laugh at us ;/

Spheric Speaker system for all dockable ipods featurig two integrated speakers as wells as bass-speaker. Blue light emanating from the interior creates an UFO-like appearance. Its white compact body, which opened interior allows the subwoofer to deliver a surrounding and intense bass response, matches your iPods aura by docking it in its frontal control panel and therefore integrating it into its spherical shape. The iXXX allows synchronisation with iTunes and recharges your iPod while docked and stands on four ressistant metallic legs for more stylish placement.

It appears to be the underside of a speaker, set on 4 legs.  There are 4 lights inside to make the speaker glow to let you know it is on.  It is a new round design that is enabled to hold the ipod for you.
