EphPod is a full-featured, easy-to-use Windows application that connects with Apple’s iPod. With a FireWire card and EphPod on a PC, it takes under 30 minutes to transfer 1,000 songs to an iPod. In addition, EphPod supports standard WinAmp (.M3U) playlists, includes powerful playlist creation features, and will synchronize an entire music collection with one click. EphPod also includes powerful music-information (“tag”) editing options, as well as support for Audible and MP4/AAC files (although not the “protected” MP4/AAC files sold at the iTunes Music Store). EphPod is designed to be completely compatible with iTunes, so that you can use both EphPod and iTunes interchangeably with your iPod.
What’s new in this version:
Added Make Playlist from Subdirectory option
Fixed bug with copying playlists to the local drive not having the correct file extension
License: Freeware
System Requirements: Windows NT/2000/XP, a FireWire card, and mac-drive-reading software (i.e. MacOpener)

To Joe Masters: Thank you for making this great program available (especially for free)! I wanted to add my vote in favor of fixing the Audible bookmark bug. Was this an EphPod issue, or is this something fixable now that the 1.3 firmware update is out for Windows iPods?

syncing doesnt work, it doesnt get rid of songs so if you’ve re-ripped an album it will just duplicate all the songs and sometimes it will crash in the middle of operations and like half-songs are uploaded

I’ve never had crashes during operations, although I had problems with an earlier version where the app didn’t close properly. I’d still much rather use EphPod than MMJB, thank you very much.
Syncing is a surprisingly challenging problem; EphPod presumably can’t tell you’ve re-ripped an album without rescanning your files (unless you’ve re-ripped it through EphPod) and it can’t tell for certain whether the proper version of a file is on the iPod without rescanning that (as you may have modified the contents of your iPod from another computer). This means that a true sync would probably be a lot slower than you’d like. I’m not saying that EphPod shouldn’t be able to do this, just that I understand why it isn’t perfect. I’d love for this to work better myself.
Oh, and smart playlists would rock, especially if playcounts and ratings are taken into account. And tempo! Please, please, please ...

well to sum up, ephpod is crap and it lacks the most basic of features
Posted by ti on August 4, 2003 at 3:48 AM (PST)
11
ti, it has more features than vPod, so until vPod has the same basic features, for example: removing files from database and editing ID3 tags. I’d still be inclined to use Ephpod.
I’d like to vote for smart playlists please. Basically what Songdog asked for above.

C’mon ti go find a punching bag elsewhere! Here you are both hands in your pockets, getting stuff for free and nagging like a &$tch! An attitude that isn’t even approriate when it comes from a five year old.

Hi, Songdog! Actually there are quite a few MeFi members here, including one of the forum mods.

Does this version recognize tag changes? Tag changes and smartlists are the main reasons I changed to MC9 Beta.

Media Jukebox is a better music manager than iTunes and also supports Windows iPods.

As stated in between your earlier posts in this thread, ti, all you have to do is replace the .exe file. It’s a new binary, not an updater. I’m surprised but pleased that you’re giving it a try!

Ahar, thats why everyone likes free software, thats why linus released linux for free! Because your not allowed to criticise things that are free, because that would be childish! Your the one acting like a 5 year old. Learn to take criticism.
