iPodControl is for people who use their iPod on multiple computers (like me who switches between Mac and PC twice a day). For some reason, iTunes saves it’s local preferences on the iPod—making them not local. This means that if you have your music library on one computer, and use the other computer just to play the music, you’ll constantly be threatened that iTunes is about to destroy all your music. Obviously not cool.

Among other things, iPodControl fixes this problem by providing a launcher for iTunes which keeps track of your local preferences—updating them for you when you launch iTunes, then restoring them to their previous state when you quit or dismount the iPod.

You know what? 3681 downloads and not a single donation. This is my first attempt at donation-ware—obviously not a lucrative business :-p
Glad people are making use of it tho…

I just downloaded iPod control and plugged in my 20gb ipod to my home computer using a USB cable.  The software says my iPod is not “mounted.”  I take it I have to go out and drop down some bucks for a dock in order to use this software??  Shucks.

No, don’t need a dock. Just make sure all the iPod software is installed (including iTunes) and that the iPod is in disk mode…

I initially set up my ipod library on my work computer, then brought it home and used ipod control to add songs from my home computer. But I want to transfer everything on my ipod to my home computer. Is this possible? If so, how do I got about it?

Thanks!

-Robin

Hi -  I’m trying really hard with this program but I’m struggling to make any headway at all. Please help me!
Two things:

1. I can’t find ‘itunesprefs’ file anywhere in ipod control / windows explorer?? But I do have ‘islibrary’ and ‘notlibrary’.  I run off XP.

2. I’m also getting Ipod not “mounted”. But I don’t know what you mean by having the ipod in ‘disk mode’.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Look in the iPod Preferences section in iTunes, disc mode is a setting found there.
You don’t need to worry about #1 unless there’s something you want to tweak. I don’t think you’re ready to tweak just yet…

So, if I don’t need the ituneprefs file then what do paste in place of the islibrary and notlibrary?

Or don’t I need to? Do I just delete the notlibrary file, or do I rename it islibrary?

Sorry to be a pain but I’ve had too long where I haven’t been able to put songs on my ipod due to a new PC and I just want to get it right - plus you’re talking to computer illiterate!

Thanks for any help,

Paul.
