Windows: XPlay 1.1.4 Update Released

Provides both read and write access to your iPod hard drive for documents and data files, plus the ability to organize your music either from the Explorer-based XPlay interface, or from Windows Media Player.

What’s new in this version:
Added: Support for using Mac-formatted iPods with iTunes for Windows under Windows 2000 and XP
Fixed: Compatibility with iPods modified by iTunes 4.1.1

License: Commercial $29.95 (Demo available)
System Requirements: XPlay requires a Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 or 32-bit XP-based computer with CD-ROM drive and FireWire or USB interface. XPlay is compatible with any model of Apple iPod, but requires iPod system software version 1.1 or newer; all 40GB, 30GB, 20GB, 15GB and 10GB, and recent 5GB iPod units, have compatible system software preinstalled.

You should really look at Anapod Explorer instead. Way more features for half the price. Plus, xplay has only had 4 updates since it was released more than a year ago, while Anapod Explorer has had 4 updates already in the last month.

eh, whatever rcl. I got XPlay when I got my iPod over the summer and couldn’t be happier. Does everything I need it to do in a simple and elegant manner. No reason to change at this point.

Are frequent updates always a good thing? I’m not so certain. It completely depends on what’s being updated. Like I said, XPlay has always done what I needed it to do.

yeh but anapod has the stream feature and it also gives you a licence by device not computer - which is really good coz i can LEGALLY keep a copy on all my comps, in addition anapod can be used in WMP and winamp…..

constant updates doesnt necessarily mean a good product rcl. it could also mean that they initially made crap and the updates are trying to fix there mistakes. of course they wont tell you this. they will pick out a small new feature and say oh yeah the update is because of it.

You guys are missing the most important advantage Anapod has over Xplay. It can copy MP3z TO and FROM the iPod and maintain the filenames no matter how long the filenames are. Xplay truncates them when sending back to the PC from the iPod.
So you don’t need to maintain them on the PC/Laptop. You can send them all to the iPod but have the capability to transfer them BACK to the PC/Laptop in their original form. Xplay authors don’t/won’t seem to be able to do that for Xplay.
