Xitel today introduced the HiFi-Link for iPod, a new docking station that connects an iPod to your home stereo or television. The HiFi-Link, which utilizes Apple’s new Universal Dock design, also comes with a wireless remote control and charges your iPod. The HiFi-Link for iPod will be available this month for $100.
“Built from the ground up for exceptional sound quality, HiFi-Link for iPod replicates the high-end outputs found on audiophile-grade equipment,” says Xitel. “By processing the cleanest possible signal from iPod’s base connector, HiFi-Link for iPod provides exceptionally pure and dynamic audio for a true high-fidelity experience. Attention to detail is apparent in the quality of gold-plated line-level RCA outputs with matching studio-grade audio cable. Through the inclusion of SRS TruBass, Xitel’s HiFi-Link for iPod also significantly enhances the lower frequencies of all music. Using advanced psychoacoustics, HiFi-Link for iPod adds back the warmth and depth that audio compression takes away.”

this looks promising. the trubass can be turned off if pure signal is wanted. in addtion, since it does not mention that the remote can control volume, perhaps it is a true line-out w/o the volume inputs like the kensington/DLO docks have. i prefer to control the volume through my receiver remote anyways. remote works with playlists. it does not look like a video cable comes with it. i wish these would come out at a $60-$70 price point.

It looks like the remote is IR and not RF ?? Why? Are there any stereo docking stations with good sound that comes with an RF remote that will work through walls ?

It looks like, when hooked up to a TV, this dock ALSO DOES NOT show the iPod’s interface on the TV. The first dock maker that does this has my money immediately!!!
Why won’t someone do this?! If it requires a firmware update from Apple then please Apple do it!! With this capability the 5G ipod becomes the perfect portable mdeia center. The iPod interface on my TV….music, videos, photos all from across the room. Please someone do this!!!!

Also, no S-video output on this thing, unlike Apple’s dock. I guess they don’t care about a quality video signal…..
