“XO Play the manufacturers of Herbert’s Big Adventure launched today their second iPod game following the success of ‘The Rise Of The Lost’ last week.

The adventure story game puts you in the role of Herbert, a heart breaker, lady lover - funny guy who has all the right moves. You venture out into the city to seek that one true love to give your heart to. Whether it’ll be at the local bar sipping on a Martini, hanging out at the nightclub, or shopping at the mall. As Herbert, you have to keep a watchful eye for the girl of your dreams.

As you read through the adventure you will be asked to choose your destiny by selecting from a number of options found at the bottom of the page. Similar to the ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ series. The game cost $14.99 and is played via the notes section of your iPod.”

text game on iPod? lame.

Not necessarily lame, if it’s done right.  Does anyone remember the Zork trilogy?  Great text-based game.  Either way, chaging what they’re trying to charge (the first one started off at something like $20, and this one is $15) is absurd.  These guys are pathetic.

Zork!  You’re bringing me back, davsug!

The thing is, Zork had a command line interpreter.  This game, I think, is more akin to a choose-your-own-adventure book.

And Infocom games were all about the writing and the story.  The fact that we can’t have a sample of these iPod games is kind of ludicrous.

Hey, i thought i’d post this here for the heck of it:

http://www.ifarchive.org/

The “interactive fiction” archive.  Lots of Infocom-related stuff, z-interpreters for most major operating systems, and GAMES, all free.

None yet for iPod though.  XO Play wins!

Wow, that’s a new low. I wouldn’t consider a “success” to be ripping people off. There are millions of iPod users, most are tired of the same four games so of course people are going to go nuts over these new “games”.

Easy money, I say. I just think it’s sad that their employees are pretending to be iPodlounge users and posting positive stuff about this stupid game.

Again, sad to see these guys taking our idea, twisting it around and selling it. Anyone with half a brain can download my software, and make a game that is on par if not better than the one they are selling. Honestly, just download my software, and make games for yourselves. I have 4 games FREE on my site along with the software.

My site is: iStory.i87.org

Screw this XO play people, and lets make this a free thing. You think you can make better games than XO Play? Make Them with the iStory Creator and let people play it for free. DOWN with the greed.

it outlines our plans, what the iStory Creator does, and alot of other important info on how to contribute and share free games with others.

2 things.

Does anybody younger than 18 remember CYOA Books? I thought those rose and fell with MC Hammer.

And what’s all this talk about Apple getting off their a**? Try being in the forefront of innovation yourself. They don’t have anybody else to copy. For being simple-minded consumers, I’m hearing a lot of people complaining about features the iPod doesn’t have but look at all the features it does have. If you want a personal game player, get a cell phone. This is a music player and a darn good one at that. If it weren’t for the geniuses behind this operation, we wouldn’t have such a great device. So give them a break.

Hmmm… Kinda similar to the ‘‘Girlfriend Quest’’ available for free on the iStory games pages.

Stop complaining about everything. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Girlfriend quest crap.

Good point, Wolf.  Apple doesn’t need to get off their a**es to make better games for the iPod.  They made the best possible music player, period, and if people want more functionality, like games, they should make them themselves, just like XgamerX.  This is how it started with Palm Pilots.  A great product was developed, and the user community went off and created amazing software for it.  They just did it legitimately, not pulling the crap XO is pulling.

buy a gameboy if you want games.
the ipod is an mp3 player

One more thing to clear up…

The iPod is a **Digital Music Player**

MP3 is one of the lousiest compressions available. Being able to play every (worth using - who cares about WMA) music format is what makes the iPod stand a head above the other kids.

Sure all the positive comments are from the same IP address. But do we really know if XO is behind it? Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?  If it is them then I agree…it’s about as lame as it gets. If it’s not an employee…then an apology might be in order for all the flaming.

Every format? It can’t play any loseless formats, such as fLAC or shn.

not trying to a hater just stating the facts man.
