XtremeMac explains Luna X2 delay, adds iPhone support

Following several delays and correspondingly angry reader comments, XtremeMac today confirmed the revised shipping date for its Luna X2 iPod clock radio and announced the addition of iPhone compatibility to the system. In a note to iLounge, XtremeMac President and CEO Gary Bart explained, “We apologize for the delays with Luna X2. These delays are the result of factors outside of our control. We have taken advantage of the time delay to also incorporate iPhone compatibility into Luna X2, so that we can deliver the product with even more value than originally planned. Luna X2 will definitely go into production in July and will be available from XtremeMac and our retail partners by the beginning of August. XtremeMac wants to deliver only the very best products to market and assure that our customers are truly satisfied with their purchase. We understand customers’ frustrations with pre-ordering products that are viewed ahead of actual shipping. Sometimes, complex products take longer than anticipated to complete. XtremeMac certainly appreciates everyone’s patience.”

March became May became July became August became September and now they are saying October.

I am so glad I cancelled my order and moved on.

Will NEVER do business with this company again.

Would love to see iLounge reach out to XtremeMac on this again.

Yeah, I’m one of those who ordeded it last year…2007.  Funny to see the same outrage I had reflected among the other commenters.  My partner actually had the same experience ordering an original Luna when XtremeMac was in the limbo between phasing it out for the X2 in January.  He had a 6 month delay on the OLD version, so I guess waiting until October for a December order is par for the course.

By the way, email went to both XtremeMac AND Imation with the last “Oh my, looks like the shipping date is 3 months away now!” ~ I (yet again) got NO response from XtremeMac and a autoresponse from Imation…  This is kinda like a bad movie… I’m staying in to the end to see how really bad the whole thing is.

And would love to use the product someday… we’ll see, I guess.

Is XtremeMac/Imation a real company at this point? The entire situation is ludicrous. They introduced the Luna X2 in January and as of early October, the product still hasn’t shipped.

Fortunately, I only recently discover this product.  For what it’s worth….I called the support desk which was no help.  They told me the ship date was TBD.  Then I emailed ALL the addresses listed on the web page.  I got a response back a day later (not bad) saying the following:

“I am sorry for the delay on this item. The Luna X2 is on backorder and is expected to be available in mid November.” XM Support Team

Let’s simply hope this is it.  I would think they are rushing to ship before Xmas.  If not, move on a don’t hold your breath.

Same as Bo, I have purchased the Luna X2 in April 08 with a promo codes for 95.96 (plus 16 $ for shipping cause I Live in Canada).

A couple of days a go, I have received the same email as Bo :

I’ve call Xtrememac and they don’t want to honer it (95.96$). They tell me : We can’t honor it cause Xtrememac is not the same business now… That’s it !

Damn !

But I’ve call to Extrememac every months since april to be sure to get the same price and to know when my Luna X2 well be mine ! And they tell me to don’t have to be worried about that and they still have my order !!!

So now the want to charged me 119.95 + tx + shipping !!!!

I told to Extrememac how this situation are ridiculus cause I’m a great customer for us ! Waiting 8 months for a product and resisted to don’t change for an Ihome…

Again, I am sorry for my bad english and my letter are just to let you know how are Xtrememac business…

So now, no way for this product for me. I’m going with an Ihome !

Have you received any news from Extrememac ?

Martin,

I had no luck calling them but yesterday I got a reply from them, now with an imation email, that they will honor my Apr order of $95.96.  We’ll see.  I had sent them a heated email eventually telling them to ship my order BUT they are only authorized to charge my card $95.96.  Supposed to ship 18 Nov.  Let’s see what happens!

Bon chance!

Just a comment:  Did anyone notice the difference between the pictures of the Luna X2 and the video (both on the website)?

I DID!  the buttons are raised and it doesn’t look nearly as sleek and makes it cheap looking by comparison.

The look of the Luna X2 is one of its biggest selling points and this would be very dissapointing.

Those with outstanding orders may want to check the XtremeMac site again and/or call their support line. The compatibility chart on their site does lists the Luna X2 as NOT compatible with the iPhone. A call to their customer support line confirmed this, so I canceled my order, although an email reply I received from them indicated it would work with the iPhone. I’m trying to clarify with the support rep who emailed me if she can absolutely confirm that the Luna X2 will ship with the official “Works with iPhone” designation and have shielded speakers.

I ordered mine at Macworld.  I just received the email saying they would cancel the order if I did not respond.  Did they charge the credit card way back then?  It has been so long I forget.

Called xmac today.  If you didn’t know already Imation acquired xmac.  While the product is ready for shipping the two companies are battling out who retains the shipping rights.  The customer service rep. of course new nothing and gave a remedial answer ” will ship by month end”

I give it a week then I’m moving on to either the Logitech Pure-Fi Dream or Altec Lansing Moondance Glow.

Just checked with my supplier in Australia and they are saying they are now expecting to receive them 30/03/09.

I hope everyone that was ever interested in buying one tells them to get screwed and they completely go bust. ExtremeMac x2 luna = EPIC FAIL!

Good luck with it, I’m sick of waiting.

I’ve been content with my original Luna until last week, when I moved from a 60GB iPod Photo to a 120GB iPod classic. This combo isn’t 100% compatible: everything functions reliably except the wake-to-iPod-music alarm function, where I get the alarm buzzer instead of the iPod. Such is the upgrade treadmill.

So I check out XtremeMac’s site, and see that there’s a *new* Luna, but it’s not shipping just yet. No problem, I thought, I’ll just check iLounge for what they know about it…

*Carambs*...! Talk about a soap opera: delays, more delays, a company buy-out, still more delays, their CEO jumps ship…

The really sad thing is that I don’t really care for any of the alternatives (I returned an otherwise-okay iHome unit because it lit up the bedroom like a Christmas tree, which annoyed me a little, and my significant other a *lot*). I might reluctantly sell my Luna, but might have to forego getting any replacement until either (a) the X2 finally, actually ships, or (b) someone comes out with something comparable (Big Hint: it needs the option of going TOTALLY dark, not merely “really dim”, both for the display and any illuminated controls. Is XtremeMac the only outfit to have figured out that this is desirable for a BEDROOM clock radio???).

I just started looking at alarm clock docks for my iPhone and I got this sony one that doesn’t sound that great.  I came across this one but after reading everyone’s comments thus far…I’m on the ropes about waiting to get this one or buying the Logitech Pure-Fi Dream or a different model altogether.  Has anyone gotten confirmation of shipping yet?  It’s almost December…tomorrow… ... ...

I’ve just read Nicholas’ post on Nov 20, and it’s disappointing that XtremeMac/Imation can’t just deliver these things - internal bickering does not maketh a good company !

I will hang out for it a bit longer as everything else around is either (a) not iPhone compatible or (b) looks/sounds crap.
