XtremeMac has announced its Luna X2 clock radio for iPod, an updated version of the company’s well-received Luna Alarm Clock. The Luna X2 features two full-range precision speakers and a hi-dynamic power amplifier that offer performance comparable to the original Luna. Other features include dual alarms that can be independently set to sound to iPod, radio or buzzer, with optional settings for volume, display brightness and snooze time, a new display with variable brightness control, an integrated Dock, an AM/FM radio with 8 programmable presets, an auxiliary input for connecting other audio sources, and an included remote control. The XtremeMac Luna X2 is available for pre-order now, and is expected to ship in the coming weeks. It is priced at $120.

I’ve been casually looking for a good iPod/iPhone alarm clock for a while now, and this one looks like a winner to me. I’ll wait until I can see it for myself in an Apple Store, and of course for the full iLounge review.

Once again…what’s up with that crappy looking display? What’s the bar over the 12 for? The original’s display was awesome.

Gordy,
The bar you’re asking about is a volume indicator, which fills from left to right as you raise the volume.

I like the look of it. I was digging my first generation Luna until I lost my 5G and bought a new iPod… the old Lunas can’t wake the new iPods. So basically you have to set alarms on your iPod and the Luna or resort to the radio/buzzer options. (nobody bought the Luna to wake to the buzzer… they would have kept their old alarm clocks for that)
I’m a bit too cheap and bitter to upgrade, so I’ll just keep grumbling.

Does anyone know if this is compatible with the 2G nano’s?

From the specs: “Compatible with all iPod models with dock connector”
I called them today and they said the new ship date is 2nd week of March.

The Luna X2 looks great - so I pre-ordered one. It wasn’t until then that I discovered an expected delivery date of April 11th, 2008!!! Does anybody know something I don’t know? Obviously they are having a problem with production.

I just pre-ordered one. Note that you can use coupon code IPODWEEK2 to get 20% off of your order, so for me, with Fed Ex Ground shipping, it ended up as $100.89. My order confirmation doesn’t indicate when it will ship, though.

I called Xtrememac again, today, and she said they are getting them the first week of MAY. Oh well, more waiting.

sjonke, Thanks for the coupon code. I used it today to pre-order one. There is a FedEx ground shipping special for free shipping. Total with the coupon and shipping special is $95.96. Not sure when they expire.

I ordered the Luna 2 in March 2008 and after waiting 2 months I have had the following message from my supplier: “We have been told by our supplier that the delay is with XtremeMac and an estimated date for this item to come in to stock is now the 3/07/08. This date has been moved back every month from January this year.”
This statement is taken from iLounge’s website: “iLounge’s annual Best of Show awards are designed to recognize standout PRODUCTS and major innovations in iPod, iPhone, iTunes and/or Apple TV products and services.”
I think that iLounge should consider rescinding ‘Best of Show award 2008’ they gave Luna X2 because it is not available to the public. One definition of the word ‘Product’ is; “commodities offered for sale”

Email today says shipping slipped from 6/6/08 to 7/18/08.
ipodlounge has posted the reason for the slip; external factors. They will use the slip to incorporate iPhone compatibility.

If someone’s going to drop $130 for a clock radio that will play music and wake you up, I would spend an extra $50 and get the Chumby. This isn’t an ad. I’m just voicing my preference for something that can do all that, plus give you weather updates, stock quotes, check your Ebay and MySpace accounts, use Flikr for a digital picture frame, check your email, link to webcams, YouTube, podcasts and streaming radio, set up as many alarms as you want (not just 2), connect to you iPod or a USB stick with you songs on it, and only about another 500+ widgets that are constantly updated and added to. Yeah…..I think I prefer all that instead. But again, it’s only my opinion.
