XtremeMac today announced that its Tango iPod audio system will begin shipping on November 1st. First announced in January at Macworld Expo, the Tango features two mid-range speakers, two tweeters and an independent subwoofer. The $200 system also offers a universal iPod dock, a wireless remote, a line-in port, as well as an S-video jack and an A/V line out port for playing video content from the iPod on a television or other device. Customers who pre-order Tango will also receive a free MicroShield iPod case (5G iPod or nano) which will ship with the speaker system.

This looks like it could have a shot at the best speaker system for the iPod, even better than the Apples offering especially when you compare price.

I have actually heard this system and it sounds amazing. Especially for $200. Can’t wait to get my hands on one.

Nice price, and Im sure the added tweeters will crisp up the high end, something the Apple IPOD Hi-Fi lacks a bit of.
BUT.. its not able to go remote like the Hi-Fi and Apples intelligently designed power supply distributes DC power to the Hi-Fi and the IPOD , still in a class of its own for a universal device to play at home or remotely with very good fidelity. I paid 260.00 for my Hi-Fi and I still consider it a deal with his quality and features.

I wonder where they got their design inspiration?

Tom, it does look similar to the Hi-Fi but interestingly the tango was announced and pics released long before the announcment of the Hi-Fi. I just don’t understand why it took them so long to actually release it.
