iPodControl is for people who use their iPod on multiple computers (like me who switches between Mac and PC twice a day). For some reason, iTunes saves it’s local preferences on the iPod—making them not local. This means that if you have your music library on one computer, and use the other computer just to play the music, you’ll constantly be threatened that iTunes is about to destroy all your music. Obviously not cool.
Among other things, iPodControl fixes this problem by providing a launcher for iTunes which keeps track of your local preferences—updating them for you when you launch iTunes, then restoring them to their previous state when you quit or dismount the iPod.

Citing comments from research and investment house Susquehanna Financial Group pertaining to memory maker Lexar Media’s sales of NAND flash memory, CBS Marketwatch reports that “Susquehanna… added that the popular Apple iPod also uses the NAND type of flash memory and that demand is strong, with Apple and Hewlett-Packard planning to ship about 1 million iPods per month starting in October.”
If accurate, the projected volume of shipments would represent an increase of approximately three times known monthly sales of iPods for the preceding quarter, and suggests that Apple and HP anticipate a banner holiday season for iPod sales.

Eliot Van Buskirk, Section Editor, Technology for mp3.com has discovered that Apple is not responsible for designing the Scroll Wheel. “I’d always assumed that this bit of design genius sprung from Apple’s R&D labs, but, in fact, I discovered that a company called Synaptics, which primarily makes touchpads for laptops, actually designed this little piece of navigational heaven, in accordance with Apple’s stringent design requirements.” Synaptics designed and manufactured the Scroll Wheel/Touch Wheel and the current Click Wheel.
eMusic is set to relaunch their MP3 subscription service to make it easier to find independent artists and their songs. “As in its previous incarnation, the service will offer unprotected MP3 files from independent labels, a sharp contrast from services such as Apple Computer’s iTunes or Microsoft’s new MSN Music store, all of which wrap their songs in copy protection.” And unlike services such as MSN Music Store and Napster, eMusic MP3s can be played on the iPod. Subscription prices are set at varying tiers, 40 songs a month for $10, 65 songs for $15, or 90 songs for $20 a month.
