iPod torture test
[Updated: 03|02|02 11:12 A.M. PST]
Correction from Jason Snell of MacWorld magazine:
Yes, we did drop an iPod at 25mph, but not from a car - it was from a bike, simulating what would happen if you did take it biking. It survived! Pretty cool.
But at 30mph, it was toast. Ah well, never let it be said that we won’t sacrifice our iPods for the betterment of other iPod users.
iLounger, “TyroneShoes”, reports in our forums about MacWorld magazine’s iPod torture test:
“They dropped it at 25 mph from a car to simulate it bouncing out of your pocket, I guess. Cosmetic damage only. It took a drop at 30 mph to kill it.
They also mention some cases, but curiously not the NeoPod, which seems best IMHO.”
French iPod website launched
Congratulations to CÈdric Marchal for creating iPod Fanatic , a French website. The website includes, news, tips, photos, links and forums. CÈdric tells us, “The site is modest at the moment, but it should be growing in time.” We tried translating the pages for you with Babel Fish, but kept getting errors.

Software: iPod Free File SynX v2.2.1 for OS X
Changes for v2.2.1:
- In previous versions it was problematic if you defined your main music folder as the “New Music Folder”. If you choose to add the new files to the “New Music Folder Content”-play list, your entire music library appeared in that play list. Now only the files which where copied by iPFFS’s auto copy feature will be added to that play list.
- Compatibility for Mac OS 10.1.3.
- Small corrections and enhancements as always

Entrants need to submit 4 URLs of mentions of the Podpac found on web sites such as http://www.iLounge.com (I know there are at least more than that many mentions of the Podpac on your site alone).

Software: iPod Free File Sync v2.2.1 for OS 9
Changes for v2.2.1:
- In previous versions it was problematic if you defined your main music folder as the “New Music Folder”. If you choosed to add the new files to the “New Music Folder Content”-play list, your entire music library appeared in that play list. Now only the files which where copied by iPFFS’s auto copy feature will be added to that play list.
- Some other improvements and corrections. Actually all changes doesn’t represent a 0.1.1 change in the version number, but as long both versions (OS 9 and OS X) are identical in the feature set i want to keep the version numbers in sync.
The update for the OS X version will follow soon.
Clear Rubber iPod Stand
While out shopping today, a member of the iLounge team discovered a clear rubber soap dish by Umbra at The Container Store, a storage and organization store. Being rubber and clear, the iPod fits snug and looks cool in its new re-purposed soap dish. Though it may not be the ideal desk stand for your iPod, it works well for $4.99. The Container Store and Umbra web sites have no information about this particular item. If you want one, check for store locations at www.containerstore.com or email Umbra for more information on where you can purchase it.
