Mac: AAChoo 1.2 Released

Consider that converting an mp3 file to AAC certainly isn’t going to make it sound any better: if there are nasty compression artifacts in your music, converting it to AAC can’t magically make them go away.  To do that you’d need scrubbing software (an imperfect solution) or to rip the source material at a higher bit rate (better). Might make the files smaller, though, useful if you’re space-strapped.

However, AAC uses mpeg-4 encoding, and the program here can accept AIFF, WAV, or movie files. So it has plenty of applications beyond converting your old format to a new one.

BBC News: File swappers 'buy more music'

I can’t listen to the radio without cringing, most of the time. I guess I get tired of hearing the same 10 songs over and over and over....ad nauseum. Plus, you can only listen to an artist that the record company is trying to pass off as the “Next Big Mediocre Thing” before wanting to smash the radio, or TV for that matter. So this is a great way for me to check stuff out before I buy it. I couldn’t even begin to tell you how many artists I’ve discovered this way. Not to mention the number of CD’s and Vinyl I’ve purchased as a result.

SF Chronicle: Artists blast record companies over lawsuits against downloaders

Jaguares-The reason that I would take what Moby says seriously, along with most of the other people quoted is this: He made a lot of valid points.

So, uh, where do I get the program? Every link I’ve found for it gives an “Unexpected end of drive” error.

iPod 30GB for $374 shipped

Well, my order now says that it is in process, but also listed as being “delayed”.  great.  It still lists a ship date of 9/18, so I will wait and see.

If nothing else, I WILL have one this weekend, if I have to drive a couple of hours to an Apple Store to buy a 40g.

Who knows, if they can’t get the 30g anymore, maybe they will upgrade to 40g!  i can dream can’t I?

Observations on 40GB iPod

I was one of the first to get a 40GB iPod in Australia on Monday - according to the staff, and while in the AppleCentre I had a closer look with a 15GB “old” iPod and I also found the new one’s scroll-wheel and butons are more “white” - as in less clear acrylic- so there are some minor cosmetic changes

Windows: euPOD PRO 1.6 released

Your “easy” hack above DO NOT work with 3rd gen iPOD’s. Only with 2gen iPOD’s.

The 3rd gen iPOD do not have a limit file grin

Windows: euPOD PRO 1.6 released

Actually there is a simple hack to get rid of the volume cap.
You need to have your iPod to be setup to act as hard disk. Then you need to unable the viewing of hidden files. On a Mac, this can be done with a tool like TinkerTool (http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool2.html).
once you have done that and browse the files on the iPod, you will find a directory called ipod_control, in which there is another foler named Device. In that last folder, you’ll find one named ‘Limit’. Just delete it and voila! Gone is the volume cap.
