First off I think it’s way ugly in comparison to our iPod. Second, I’d like to get cleared up what appears to be a misconception because their site says it does in fact support firewire:
I have had MD players for about 6 years now and in March bought my first Ipod. I have loved my MD players especially my N1, but the problem I had was every time I would go on a trip or vacation I had 2 cases full (about 24-30) of minidisks to carry along with the player. Now that I have a 10 gb Ipod I have transferred about 100 CD’s on it and I only need to bring just this little white wonderful player. I would not give up my Ipod for anything right now, in fact I am planning to buy a new 3G 15 gb Ipod and give my old one to my wife to use.

Zen: 4.4 x 3 x 0.86 inches
iPod: 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.73 inches (30gb)
Pretty close there
Zen: 7.9 oz
iPod: 6.2 oz (30gb)
Zen’s almost 2oz heavier
Zen: 14hrs
iPod: 8 hrs
Zens a big winner here
Zen: 8MB SDRAM
iPod: 32mb SDRAM
iPod murders the Zen here, I have lots of mp3s over 8mb, that means increased disk spin-up, and virtually no buffering for next-back buttons.
Zen: USB2.0 or 1.1 (1.0?)
iPod: Firewire or USB2.0 or 1.1 (1.0?)
iPod wins with not only a superior interface (firewire doesn’t bog down the processor like USB), but increased flexibility.
Zen is likely Windows only, while iPod is supported in both Windows and MacOS (and works in *nix’s pretty easily)
And these size/weight etc comparison’s would be much more dramatic with the 10/15gb iPods. Though ipods are so pretty most of us keep them in cases, adding considerably to the bulk.
It appears that Zen may be using the lower profile Toshiba HDs that the iPod uses to get the size down that much, if that is not the case, then Creative has done a lot to reduce the size of its electronics and battery.
Though the interface is probably the clincher. I haven’t used the new Zen, but providing it is like the old one, it will come nowhere near being as easy to use as the iPod.
There are good things about the Zen, and there are bad things, too. I think the iPod may even have a thing or two to learn from this player, but I’ll keep my iPod for now.

I guess they are entitled to their own opinion but honestly, if I saw both the Nomad and the iPod for the first time, I would have to go with the iPod. If he really believes what he said, he is missing it. The iPod is just a more original, sleeker, unified look. As for the Nomad, I don’t really care for the waste of space on the front plate and I hate cheap looking chromed plastic buttons. Then we could start talking useability. iPod is still the reigning champ.

I got my iSkin yesterday. It was shipped from Canada and it said it was shipped on the 5th and delivered on the 6th via UPS which is pretty fast. It seems that iSkin is trying to make up for their massive delays. I also got the little yellow note in the package that said the screen protector would be shipped later. I love the iSkin so far the belt clip is a little flimsy but it works and the Mac Clear case as far as I am concerned looks like it should be used by a 12 year old Japanese girl, if you add a hello kitty logo it would be perfect. I won’t be using it ebay here it comes!

To me the greatest difference is size, size very much matters when it comes to portable music players. My friend has a Zen and that thing is so friggen clunky, add on the case that ships with the zen and the thing looks like a piece of army equipment. I wouldn’t sacrafice the size and style my iPod has for all the GBs in the world (ok maybe all the GB in the world but you get my point ).

what about the fact that their players are slow as ... My nomad jukebox took about 5-8 seconds between songs, and navigating menus while a song was playing… forget about it.

I’m not sure about satirical (certainly likely), but I think buymusic’s commercials are stupid anyway. I don’t hold anyone in judgement, but just how does watching a bunch of obese, unattractive people gyrating and singing off tune make you want to go buy music? I don’t get it. Even if it did work with my Ipod, I wouldn’t buy from buymusic.
I don’t get it ... what’s the point in even *making* such a considerably useless and nonsensical comment ... did he say anything about ‘user-friendly’-ness, interface, screen, ... ? Oh no, it’s all bigger better cheaper , blahblahblah ...
But then we started caring

“Do any of the other windows programs work with AAC/M4A”
Media Jukebox can drive external codecs, such as WinAAC. It also has Smart Playlists with unlimited Rules for:

And some cool Playlist options:

Add (play now)

The only software with comparable playlist management that I’ve found has been Rockbox. It’s just a pity that it’s Archos-specific.
Those people have put a *lot* of effort into crafting some excellent playlist management.
Remember that only Mac OS X users (10.2)can access this service..iTunes 4.0 also..So the amount of users here is small even in the mac community..When more people migrate to OS X and see this service and when the other crowd gets their service iTunes will rock all other services..Apples ease of use and smooth hardware make
itunes a winner..This will help migration of more people..

I don’t mean to be rude or anything, Ephpod is great, and I appreciate the fact I don’t have to use MMJB anymore, that piece of crap, but why doesn’t Ephpod sync correctly? I don’t think this release fixed it… Basically it should make sure the same songs are in the ipod as in the directory, not only adding songs missing on the ipod, but also removing songs that are no longer in that directory.
Also, by using the “sync and quit” feature of ephpod, exactly what is it syncing the ipod with? You never specified a directory to sync with. Maybe it’s the last directory you added songs from?

Better looking than iPod? My old Sony cassette player looks 10 times better than Normad NX.
I would believe it if he said Normad NX is more versatile. Better looking? I don’t think so.
