I would still rather buy a cd and rip it into the format of my own choosing. I bought a cd from buymusic, just to see how it worked and it was a total waste of 10.00.

GMonkey - fastest computer is entirely subjective. clearly mistaking facts is not. 2+2 does not equal 7, but I’m sure that’s what buymusic’s calculator is showing.

“Please be advised that some of the earphones and/or earmuffs have larger diameter speakers than the ER-4. Bigger speakers are capable of higher outputs at lower frequencies. The ER-4 earphones, by design, have a flatter frequency response. That means without adding extra bass by using an equalizer or bass boost, the ER-4 may sound like it has less bass than other earphones. The other thing that is very important is the issue of sealing the ER-4 in the ear. It must seal in the canal like an earplug or the bass frequency response will be diminished. With some earphones, you can get away with not having a good seal and your earphones will sound o.k.; e.g. Grado 80 and your iPod earphones.
The ER-4P is capable of outputting more than 100 dB SPL at low frequencies, the other earphones are capable of greater low frequency output because the speakers are larger. The ER-4P has a flatter low frequency response compared to the other earphones mentioned. Doing a side-by-side comparison of all the earphones would result in the ER-4P sounding like it has less bass than the others. Extra bass can be added by adjusting the equalization or adding bass boost.
Lastly, based on the shape of one’s ear, one may want to consider a musician’s custom earmold for comfort and seal to replace the “standard” foamies and white flanged eartips. “

Who wants to live in a gated community?
As much as I look forward to iTunes coming to windows, I don’t like the idea of having no choice but apples choice.
Protected by the mighty umbrella of Apple?
Trapped more like.

That Slyck site is specifically dedicated to file sharing (Read: piracy). Check out the comments! Loaded with ignorant misinformation about iTunes. (They only have pop music? CDs cost $17 each to download? P2P is easier and more reliable than iTunes?) And you’ll find a strong slant towards stealing music as the only way to live.

AAC and WMA imo are both useless formats. If i had to choose i’d probably go with AAC.
the iTunes store is far superior to the BuyMusic.com store. BM.com stole Apple’s idea on the commercial, create a poor site to navigate for music, and think up STUPID slogans.
Apple and iTMS all the way!

It’s important to note that etymotic sells a little cable that will convert your 4P’s into 4S’s for around $60. That way you get the best of both worlds. 4S’s at home and 4P’s on the road with my Ipod.
Little known Windows feature allows you to use the built-in sound recorder to record directly off the sound card. This allows you to record streaming audio or downloaded music into WAV format. Once in your own file, you can do whatever you want with it.

I don’t think anyone in their right mind expected the rate of downloads to hold - at least until they would expand the offering or get Windows users on board. What they really need to do is dramatically increase the available songs and, more importantly, finally get the indie lables and more obscure stuff on there. This is the reason my downloads dropped off. After about 20 or so downloads, I just didn’t see anything I wanted. I keep looking, but the artists/music I like isn’t there yet. I like the service - it can be addicting. Once they have the songs I want, I’ll be a much more frequent visitor. I also think they need to add more unique tracks - demos, b-sides, live stuff, ect. Independant labels and alternative artists may have a narrower audience, but many times that audience is more loyal and are more gluttonous collectors than those that may listen to mainstream stuff. To make money and survive, lesser known artists have to be more prolific. This is why this type of delivery system is perfect for them - throw out as much stuff as you can and people will buy it - and at hardly any incremental cost to them, the artist. Give us your demos, your soundboard boots, your unreleased gems - I’ll donwload them for $.99.

My scheduled shipping date is still 8/13/2003.. which is about two weeks from the order date. Dell’s not budging.
Dell actually asked for the order numbers of people who received their iPods quicker than two weeks. That’s why I was asking the other two for their order #’s.
To each his own. Just like the debate over the new ipods not having the blue screen, I prefer the unique look of the white light ipod. I just can’t imagine having the guts to try something like that.

wow, so, you mean, the initial sales were inflated by people using a legal download service for the first time?
c’mon people. this service was the first of it’s kind—the initial numbers were high because lots of people were trying it out. The sales will plateau somewhere until large quantities of new tracks are added or a new market segment is tapped (i.e. windows). Mac users are still a relatively small US market segment, and they’re gonna use up their interest in the existing tracks available pretty quickly. To be successful iTMS needs to continue to add new and interesting music to the catalog and sweet god do they need to make the service available to the other 97% of computer users.
Ummm… duh? Of course everyone is going to want to buy all the songs they definitely want right away. Then demand will taper off and people will get into a more regular stream of a certain number of new songs per week. It’s natural that there is a peak right when the service came out. Back when CDs first came out, there was a huge rush as everyone replaced their cassettes and vinyl. Now sales have naturally tapered off as the replacement phase is over.
However, the windows iTunes will pump the sales up again. Personally, I’d love a more platform-independent front-end to the iTunes store as I have my iPod hooked up to my Linux box (gtkpod).

Not that I really care one way or another if iTunes succeeds, but this is a prime example of lying with statistics. Just about any highly-anticipated product experiences high sales after launch which slowly declines as pent-up demand is met. This is true of new cars, new movies, new stock (IPOs), new albums, and of course iTunes. To take this microeconomic reality and twist it into some sort of “proof” that iTunes is doing badly, is really poor journalism.
