You guys are funny, you are gonna tell the media and make a big deal out of the fact that your iPods dont get as load as our US iPods. Come on,just use some of the solutions up above, and get over it. I was actually on your side until you guys got so dramatic, just chill, enjoy what you have, and have some fun, dont worry about what you dont have.
If it works well, I’ll definitely buy one of these. I carry my keys with me all the time, so when I’ve got the iPod in its dock, hooked to the stereo, I just need to reach into my pocket to activate it. That’ll be nice! thinktwice, I think it’s a bit impractical to expect a wireless remote to have a LCD display plus backlight AND no batteries. It DOES need power from somewhere.
I have downloaded this program and it doesn’t work on my machine (WinME). When I run it I get an error message that, according to the online indigostar.com faq, needs an edit to the script before it is compiled to an exe.

I have a euro 15gb. I changed the phones to the etymotic ER4P’s which are noise cancelling (and £200!!!!) however they are not loud enough for me........they are no good if you walk a lot though as they pick up interference from the cord - but they are WICKED!!!!!!
anyway - that is personal preference.
Well i also got confirmation from apple UK support that there is a limit on euro ipods and you “cannot remove it”.
Apple have refunded me - i was on day 13 of 14 money back.
I have obtained a SEALED NEW US model for £70 LESS than the euro one. So - i WILL be in a position to advise you of the difference soon!

there is but I’m not sure about this but I think its true that the Apple eurpean mean distrubution place is in ireland as that is where all the iPods bought from Apple’s site are sent then from Ireland they are sent to there final destination so if this is true and its there main/only place then its going to be more hassle and costly for them to sort through only sending limited volumn iPods to french area’s this means they need to make only a certain number of iPods with the limit cap and if French sales go down they have lsot alot of money making sure that only a few have the cap on, or they can do what they do now and put a cap on a larger number of iPods so then they don’t have to worry if French sales go down they cans tills end out the iPods to other european countrys and don’t have to filter through the iPod’s to only send capped ones to France
Hope you understand that lol or get the main point from it =S
Posted by Fusen in UK on July 5, 2003 at 6:35 AM (PDT)
the cap is off a french law which involves a restriction on the max volumn while listening to something in plainer terms the music cannot exceed a certain decibell level. but instead of trying to filter it so only the french have the limit they set it so all europe have the ban also this ban has been out since firmware above 1.2.2 so nothing is really going to happen by apple.
Posted by Fusen in UK on July 5, 2003 at 6:11 AM (PDT)
Perhaps someone could press Apple Support a bit harder and ask why there is this cap and if they intend to do anything about it. I will myself if i get the chance.
Posted by drumstick on July 5, 2003 at 6:05 AM (PDT)
Also I don’t have a clue how people can saw “if this really is true” when I just posted 2 clips which prove its true! Are people that ignorant these days?
Posted by Fusen in UK on July 5, 2003 at 4:21 AM (PDT)
Thanks! That’s great infomation. Did they indicate that they were getting any negative feedback about this and if there is any help on the way?
And also, as to answer Point 3 above ... where do you draw the line? Do you want someone in your house monitoring the volume of your TV, checking the temperture of your coffee and making sure you are brushing your teeth properly, making sure you are eating the right foods and exercising enough? These things could all make you a modicum safer or healthier, I suspect. But do you really want to live like that.
I’ll take the risk on poor hearing, thanks.

I called Apple support in the UK (or rather I think the desk is based in Ireland) and after going past 1st level support to the i-pod specialists desk I got a conirmation that there is a limit on European i-pods.
That there is a limit or not is not the question. The question is why? Why not only in France? Why don’t we have an official comment for the i-pod dev team?
And to answer that point 3 above: we’re not asking for a very high volume that busts our ears. We’re adults and can turn down the volume. The problem is that city dwellers such as ourselves can’t hear the music clearly when in a noisy environment. But with any competing product and also MD and CD walkmans etc we can. Why would we spend this much money to have a system that is overshadowed by cheapo alternatives in achieving the device’s primary task: namely listing to music on the go.

What was the name of that tune in the before and after WAVs? It’s really catchy and sounded like some kind of mid-to-late nineties chemical brothers type thing.

No, regardless of currency, Futureshop is usually always overpriced..
As I said, “they sell the 10, 15, and 30 gig for $459, $629, and $799 CAD respectively when the retail price at apple and any apple dealer is $459, $599, and $749 CAD......”
Basically, everyone sells the 15 and 30 gig for $599 and $749 while Futureshop attempts to sell them for $629 and $799…
The silicone jacket is awful - I just bought one (I am in Tokyo). The holes for the ‘buttons’ are too small, so you have to exert a lot of pressure to the front of the iPod to activate them. Wait until they bring out a better version!

I would suggest telling the media about the Euro vol cap problem, here for example:
http://www.theregister.co.uk
and the Watchdog TV program. See the BBC web site.
I think it would be good to get the national press involved too.
