Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

Wake up people !!!  This so called “mini-Pod” is non-existance !!!  I don’t understand why people in the net is talking like it is for real !!!  Please ...  use logic and think about it a little more.  Business wise, cost wise, technology wise, they just don’t make sense !!!!!

me, have you considered that it’s physically impossible? The only way you could do that is to like increase the size of the dock’s hole….

Mini iPod concept designs

Here ‘s an hypothesis on the price of mini iPods given the Cornice 2GB drives at 70$:

Assuming that the HD represents 80% of the cost, the non-HD parts of a 10GB iPod would be worth 60$ (selling price).

Now, if Apple uses the Cornice HD for 70$ cost and maintains its usual 40% margin we would need to add 116$ for a total price of 176$ for about 500 songs. (probaly 179.99$ to mislead buyers by 10 bucks as usual).

This yields a 35cent/song average as opposed to the 10G iPod which costs 12 cent/song for 5 times more songs and less than double the price.  Plenty of opportunity to upsell the larger models so that mini-iPods don’t canibalize the 10+ GB models.

We’ll see tomorrow…

PocketDock for iPods for $17

I love the PocketDock. When I take my iPod and laptop, I only need one short FireWire cable for all uses… the same cable can connect my 3G iPod, digital camcorders (with the Apple 6-pin to 4-pin adapter) & other Macs.

Sooo much easier than carrying a separate cable for the iPod, a separate 6-pin to 6-pin cable and a separate 6-pin to 4-pin cable.

PocketDock for iPods for $17

$13.70 at ecost.com:  http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=296379

As for the people who don’t see the usefulness of the pocket dock, it makes the docking iPod useable on firewire computers so you don’t have to carry your dock with you all the time.

I use one of my iPods as a means of transferring digital video between my computers at work and at home.  Now, I don’t have to buy another Apple dock, and can use my 40gb iPod to transfer the bigger projects.

they do look nice, but <sigh> I’m still waiting for someone to come out with something like this that fits in the dock without having to remove or adjust the skin in any way.

I ahve my ipod & dock nicely intergtrated with my home stereo in my living room, right next to the TV.

I wish someone came out with a skin that you could leave on and place in the dock - and not have to peel part of it up or remove it entirely…

AppleMatters: Next To The iPod Everything Else Is Ugly

And I thought a story from a website called AppleMatters.com wasn’t going to rank the ipod as the best??

It would mean more if it was from a non biased website. Not many Apple fan websites are saying anything too critical of the ipod. But I do agree—the ipod is the snazziest. wink

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

I have a 30Gb iPod, and I will definitely be getting one of these miniPods if they do get released. I want to separate my iTunes/Audible collection from my main iPod, which contains mostly self-ripped MP3s, most of which are synced from a Linux machine. Syncing iTunes and Audible tracks from Linux is impossible, so my iBook will be used for that.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

I fully intend on purchasing one as well. I currently have a 2g 10 Gig that I purchased only 3 months ago, but would gladly trade that in for a smaller device that holds less.

I only use around 6 gig for music, and the other 4 is portable hard drive space in my mind. I can be a little more selective in the music I listen to for a smaller device that (I would assume) uses less battery, and is half the cost.

In actuality I would end up selling my current Pod for the new miniPod, and I hope I made a bit of profit.
