Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

Note that the press release specifically says it was “EMBARGOED UNTIL JAN 5, 2004”.

Embargoed, eh? That sounds so like Apple.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

Anyone who has an Ipod going to get one? I know I will, if just to play around with, and then give as a gift.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

I think this ties the rumor all together. I think the the mini ipods are, in fact “real”. This is too much of a coincidence to not be true.

AppleMatters: Next To The iPod Everything Else Is Ugly

I like the looks of my iRiver - and the little full-function LCD remote is a serious combination of tech and genius art. I used to have an iPod and after a couple of years I can honestly say I got bored with the white goods look. It now reminds me of lame 70s “scifi” looks and bubble chairs.

I think a lot of people feel the same way judging from the weird array of skins and cases you can buy to trick out the iPod.

I think the timing of the press release says it all.

CNET: Music downloads decline after RIAA lawsuits

Just maybe, the availablity to purchase and download music online had a little to do with it, rather than the fear of being sued.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

“The 2GB Storage Element is available to manufacturers for US$70 per unit in quantities of 100,000 per year.”

That doesn’t mean that companies can *only* buy 100,000… it means that the minimum order is 100,000 to get the $70 price.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

I agree… this just sounds ‘right.’

However, the 100,000 quantity is indeed hugely inadequate.  It is possible, though, that that number is intentionally reduced, until Apple allows them to announce a ‘partnership’ when the iPod itself is introduced.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

Regardless of anything, an MP3 player without an LCD will never sell.  To make it small enough, have the elegance of the current iPod AND have a readable LCD is the challenge.  I haven’t seen any of these rumor sites address this in a significant way.

Alternatively, I would love to see a wired remore with a small LCD….. ah dreams.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

Imagine the disc would be replacable…..Sony would get a fit, their PSP (with a replacable 1,9 Gb Universal Media Disc) won’t be in the shops for a year!

But if it’s not replacable…2 G is about 30 CD’s, strongly depending on etc. etc. but anyway, 30 CD’s is not very much….why not buy a MD-walkman and cary some MDs with you?
We’ll see…

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

just looked though the brochure at cornice’s website and it does have compatiblity with portalplayer (current ipod chipset).  i think this IS the meduim that the minipods will have.

Mini iPods to use new Cornice 2GB hard drive?

correct, 100,000 would be way to few for the mini-ipods. I assume that if apple went to them and said “i want 1,000,000 for $50 apiece” that they’d probably cut apple a deal or some sort of compromise/contract. Just a guess though. Those suggesting a mini-ipod is impossible due to price are not thinking too clearly. For the bottom of the spectrum $100 - $150 isn’t out of the question IMHO.

mmmm…, interesting but I don’t think 100,000 is enough for mini-iPod’s demand if it were released tomorrow

Macworld: Matias Announces New iPod Armor Case

I have no idea what kind of stairs they have in Matias land but they can’t be very big ones. And dropped onto concrete from what height? Two inches? Seriously, hard disks are fragile beasts, especially whilst running, and falling down anything that one could reasonbly describe as stairs would most likely kill one complety or at least damage one enough to either break down quicker than you might expect usually. Of course these “tests” could of been conducted whilst the hard disc heads where parked (turned off, or inbetween read bursts perhaps) in which case maybe it might survive. Or perhaps theyve managed to squeeze some sort of spacial rift into it and theres actually several inches of foam inside that aluminium case?

I sure as hell wouldn’t want to test out their claims anyway, would you?

iPod battery lawsuit to be filed in January

I’m very unhappy over the fact that I trusted the name Apple without checking into other MP3 players. For $400, I expect the iPod to have a battery that stays charged longer than my cell phone. Especialy if it’s only 2 months old!
