Macworld: XtremeMac Xtremity iPod Accessory System now shipping

I just got it in the mail.  It sucks.  The plastic cover is cheap and feels like it will break any time.  The rubber top is weak and flimsy, and seems like it will tear in a few weeks.  But most importantly, the cover scratched my iPod!  Some protection…

The car mount feature is nifty, though.

A few tweaks and it could be a really good item.  But for now, it gets a BLEH from me.

I was one of the many people hoping for an Ipod that was fairly affordable.  A $99 Ipod was a pipedream and I’m laughing at myself for acutally biting on the rumor sites on the net.

The look of the mini is horrible, nearly all of the mockups on the internet were heads above Apple’s design.

How many times do we have to hear this before we believe it:  “If it sounds too good to be true, it is.”  Especially coming from Steve at Apple.

Yawn…this is kinda like I felt after seeing the first Tim Burton Batman movie - disappointed; expecting more for less dough.  The mini is boring looking and doesn’t fill me with the technolust I experienced when I first laid my eyes on the 3G iPod.

What a misfire for Apple.  As a new (and happy) 12.1” 1 GHZ Powerbook owner I was going to buy some shares of Apple.  I think I’ll buy more XM satellite Radio instead.

Sigh…got up early for the announcement too.

What all you iPod mini bashers need to remember is a) It’s not aimed at us iPod owners, it’s aimed at people who might have gone out and bought a 256/512MB player (a lot of which retail for around $200 US, which I know is stupid to us iPod owners, but true), b) the price will probably drop to $199 very soon, as the price dropped with the 3G iPods, and c) your opinions on the colours/styling of the are only opinions, I for one don’t mind the styling and colour choice, so lets just wait and see what happens before we all judge Apple, ok?

it’s not microsoft she’s smashing.. it’s supposed to be IBM… that’s also the reason it’s infamous (not famous)... it’s infamous because it portrayed IBM as Big Brother…. as in big brother from 1984 not the idiotic TV show… if you don’t know what 1984 refers to then you’re an idiot.

So lets just wait and see how well the iPod mini does before you judge apple on it.

They missed a key price point by a long shot.

Should’ve downgraded it to 1gb or 2 gb of flash memory and charged $150.

Macworld: New Apple iPod mini announced

15GB ipod for $300!!!!!!!
I got my 10GB for $300 3 months ago!!!!!
My 10Gb is at 8.5 and I could use the extra space as i only have about 60% of my music loaded.
I wouldn’t be so mad if the 15Gb were at say,$340…but same price!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Not mad…this is life in the tech world but man….frustrated is the word I’d use.

ok FS!,3G 10Gb ipod..3 months old $270 (paid $316 w/ tax) SHIPPED anywhere in lower 48 US states!
Comes with all accessories plus a iskin.
no joke.

As for the mini ipod? yawn!
How about black. dark red? dark purple?
$250 is too much, $179 seems more like it.

Seeing Apple pull this stunt w/ the 10/15gb ipods I’d wait to buy a mini if you want one. I can just see late summer them making a black mini ipod w/ red blacklight for $179 or something really super sweet and all those who paid $250 for a pink one will be mad.

Why complain about the colors? If you don’t like them, just buy the silver one! It would have been nice to have black, but you’re not forced to buy a color you don’t want. Plus, I don’t see why people don’t like the look of it. I personally think it looks cool, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people might like the other colors, and I dare say I would get the blue if I were ordering one.

I believe at this point (108 comments) we have heard enough about the price aspect of the new minipods. These new players sporting the 1’’ Cornice drives are a very new technology and will quickly come down in price. Anyone remember a certain white 5 gig device that debuted for $400? Now that same amount will net you four times the storage. Recently, the Nitrus began at $300 for only 1.5 gigs, and is now down to $160, almost half the price! Now the minipod starts at $250 for more than twice the storage of the first Nitrus, and people gripe. It will come down. I promise.

I think it looks great, size is perfect, but the prices do seem a bit much. $200 would have been perfect; although the $249 barrier is at a competitive level with other smaller players. I think it will do very well. The whole $50 for 11 more gigs - seems irrelevant. People considering a 4 gig device and a 15-40 gig device will not cross paths…

Macworld: iTunes Music Store - some facts

Good question Glad1959. Maybe it was one account for all the Apple Stores? I think they all have musical content on their display machines and iPods. Either they have a special deal or they had to buy music for every 3 machines. ANyone know?

I agree, $199 would have been the magic “I’m gonna buy one even if I don’t need it” number.

Macworld: New Apple iPod mini announced

I don’t know about you, but when I saw Jobs introduce the mini ipods for the first time while watching the keynote, there didn’t seem like there was much enthusiasm for the minipod.  I’m sure the price turned everyone there off, as it’s doing here from all the comments I’m reading.

However, when I think about it, they may have priced it as such to avoid cannibalizing its big brothers.  I also thought, might as well pay $50 more for 11GB.  But consider this: Perhaps Apple also factored in the inclusion of the belt clip and USB 2.0 cable into this price of $249, which the 15GB does not include.  If you decided to buy a 15GB and then buy a USB cable and carrying case separately, you’d be spending an additional $58 ($39 for the carrying case, $19 for the cable).  And if you were to buy those accessories, then might as well pay a little more to get the 20GB, which comes with a carrying case plus many more accessories, albeit not the cable.  See how smart Apple is in ultimately getting you to spend more money?
