Macworld: New Apple iPod mini announced

http://www.minidisct.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20006&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

Bye expensive Ipods with limited life-expentancy batteries and inevitably headcrashes, hello user freedom of transfering your library from one plasyer to the next, replacing dead batteries very cheap, carrying with you spare batteries or buy then on the go..anyone want to bet on the price? Surely it’s not gonna be €550, USB-cable excluded!

Haha, and then, for $245, we get a SS-player?!

Great Sony, bye Apple!

Couldn’t they have given some gratitude to those of us who’ve already coughed up $500 and given us a firmware update?  I’m happy with what I’ve got, but I feel like I’ve been used.

I personally won’t be buying a new iPod mini.  It’s half the cost of the biggest iPods, and it only offers 1/10th the space, its design leaves something to be desired, and the battery is still disappointing.  Plus it doesn’t come with all of its accessories.  For $250, you hope to get to use it like a pro.

As much as I’d like everyone in the world to have an iPod, I hope that these don’t sell well so Apple gets forced to reconsider its design and its price.

Dead!
Look at this: http://www.minidisct.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20006

Interesting it was anounced today.

Anyway: MD-successor: 1Gb userreplacable MD, probably not very cheap, user replacable batteries, standard format.

To me, this was the highlight of the keynote. The iLife software turned me on to buying a Dual 1.8 G5.

Ive been waitiing for a week for this day too come. Imagining myself with this cool new slick mini ipod that i could get cheap, considering im only 13 and need to spend my cash on other things.

Than i come home and see this ugly piece of #### ipod. God.

#1 This thing styliing is ugly.
#2 THe colours suck. You chould still be able to buy the white/silver in the mini, im my opiion thats nice and these colours r all #### that they have. Like we need like red, a darker blue, a darker green, a black owuld be slick. but no they release these crap girl colours.
Tell me how many gilrs acyually have an ipod.

In my opinion it is probably small, very small, but they could of used one thats not as tall but a bit wider. Like many of the ones that were shown at http://www.spymac.com(down at the moment)

I am diapointed but happy at the same time. Now i can get a 15 g for 299.00 that is kickass. Now im just gonna go save up and buy the 15 giiger.

I don’t get it. Why are there so many people here slating the price. You don’t like it - don’t buy it! And as this is ‘ipodlounge’ don’t you already own ipods?

Macworld: New Apple iPod mini announced

My stomach sank when the price flashed up on the screen at the keynote.

This needs to be a 199.00 model to “do battle.”

Who (with any sense) wouldn’t get out 50 more bucks for a 15 gig unit?

Once again an interesting Apple product, then disappointment when they reveal the price. I was looking for a $169 or so price. My 12 yr. old niece has been wanting an iPod, I told her to save her money because they would introduce a cheaper model today. There goes that idea. Too bad.

At the same time they look like they were designed for a 12 yr. old girl, with those lame pastel colors (do you see some 18 yr old guy skateboarding with a pale lime iPod strapped to his arm?) Where’s the bold colors? How about a carbon fiber look? Brushed aluminum? I’d love a titanium one. I was at least waiting to be blown away by a super cool new design- ugh! Boring.

Disappointed!

I read a few comments, stating that Apple should concentrate on selling SONGS, instead of selling HARDWARE.  Are you completely unaware that Apple makes NO money off of the ITMS?  They make they’re money ON THE HARDWARE.  I agree however that I was disappointed at the price.  250 is too much and yah, BUY THE 15 GIG.  But then look, you can get the 20 gig, 5 more gig space, remote, case, and dock, for only 100 more!  It’s all marketing.  Nothing will change the way that works.  I believe they are simply cashing in on the new-ness of the product, and will within the next year at least, lower to price to 199.  So, all you gettin your panties in a bunch about the 250 dollar price tag.  CHILL.  More than likey most of you already have an existing iPod and dont even need one of these.  Just enjoy and watch the stupid people flock to the overpriced hardware, and wait for the right time for a good deal.  smile  My 2 cents.

I completely agree with many of you, including Mike, who notes that the 20gig Nomad is around $300.  Heck, I could get a 20gig Dell for $250.  Using Mr. Jobs’ logic, why on earth would anyone buy a player that is 5 times less storage for the same price?  Design and interface are great, but come on, Apple should be trying to steal Dell’s customers, not give them more incentive to buy Dell.

I actually watched the keynote at a packed local Apple Store, and while it was punctuated with cheers at times (iLife, esp.), the iPod mini price was greeted with dead silence.  I mean, QUIET.  And everyone I spoke with later specifically mentioned the mini price being way too high.

I agree with whoever said Apple missed a big chance here to flip the entire low-end market their way; a $150 2 gig player by year-end is their last hope for doing so now - they’ve blown today’s free media pop and momentum.  Once the early adopters are done, sales for the mini will fall flat.  A real lost opportunity here for Apple.  Sad, sad.

i don’t understand this at all.  why not price this lower ($199, $224, whatever) and kill everyone else’s profit margins?  it’s the right size at the wrong price.  i will get one when the price comes down.

They should have used the minipod to retain that cheap 1984 look.

It’s plain ugly - looking that bad will harm Apple’s cool image. I don’t expect to see any more iPod in bad music videos any more.
It can’t be the same designers - just some interns that took the 3G and shaved bits off.
At least our 3Gs and 2Gs still look sweet.

alright, further to my landscaping post i thought i would have a mess around…on paint, so dont say “uh, wot is this guy playin at, he cant render for cheese”. i dont own photoshop, and i dont intend to use it, use your imaginations!!!

also, dont blame me if the image is slow loading (its a bitmap, sorry) and i guess if too many people look at it my bandwidth will be maxed out, altho i dont know…

So much for the $100 - $150 “low end”

Even $199 for the 4gb would have been acceptable. But $250 for only 4gigs? That’s a ripoff IMO. 4 Months ago I found a 2nd gen 10gb Ipod for $199. If you shop around you could certainly find good deals under $249 on a 10+ gb ipod. (2nd or 3rd gen).

A little dissapointing by apple, but whatever works.

I think the new 15GB is going to sell very well now.

It seems almost everyone thinks the 4GB mini should have been priced at $199. Well maybe it is not too late. Apple may revised the price when the mini ships in Feb given the overwhelming sentiments that the price point is too high.

Well we can only hope. Personally I would like to see Apple really hit it super big with mini ipod. That will shut up the competitors.

Form factor is great. Colors available may not be to my taste though.

To people predicting that the minipods will be a failure based on the fact that would be buyers could get a 15GB for 50 dollars more:
1/ Style does play a crucial role in the buying decision which is why Ipods still outsell Creative Zen players although the latter offer more GB for less bucks. So while the GB/Price ratio is a factor , it’s not the only one.  Look at the cellular phones: there are people who want a phone packed with all imaginable features those getting the best value for the money the shelve out and there are those who only lookking for a fashion statement.  Not to strech the argument, but it’s been demonstarted that to sell a fashion item, people “need” it to carry a high price tag.
2/ One of the reasons behind Ipods success is that it’s (smartly) the only player out there that Itunes is supporting.  You want Itunes? You need an Ipod (or a mini Ipod now).
3/ Apple must have made some market research to assess the potential market for ipods at that price range with those capacities. Let’s face it, people posting on Ipodlounge are not those targetted.
Feel free to react.
