Macworld: New Apple iPod mini announced
I don’t see the point of buying a mini ipod for $249 when you can spend an extra $50 for 11gig more space. I mean, the current iPod is small enough as it as so why bother?

Macworld: New Apple iPod mini announced
the new mini-ipod seems to be playing catch up with the already-announced rio nitrus.
it’s equally priced, stores 4 GB as well, is the same size if not smaller, is actually lighter, has double the battery time, and is expected to ship this month, instead of february.
although you could cop out with the “stylish look design” before, the shots of the new minipods, with all the new colors… well, they look like butt.
the nitrus is pretty quick to pickup with it’s ease of use, as well.
the only real advantages i see the minipods having is the firewire and mac compatibility….
and aside from the size, why would you get the mini ipod for $249, when you can get an 15 GB ipod for just 50 more?

waaa, I think they have missed a trick there, the price seems way to high! Way, way too high.
They don’t, IMO, look as nice either :(

Macworld: iTunes Music Store - some facts
Why not a 2gb model for $150-$175??? I would have gone for that, but since I already own a 20gb iPod I don’t see any reason to pay $250 for 4gb. The design lived up to the hype, too bad the price couldn’t match it.

Yeah I got one of these. I’m using mainly for it’s car mount feature and works great. NOTE THAT BELKIN CAR CHARGER WILL NOT FIT INTO THE PORT AT THE BOTTOM WITHOUT MODIFICATION. Thank god for Dremmel.

i ouht it and tried for several days. first the front cover is cheap, hard to use, and in my case, it scratched my ipod! second, the entire box while looking sleek, is not as nice and comfortable as the regular leather xtrememac case. so i switched back. geat company, but this item is less than perfect.

Macworld: iTunes Music Store - some facts
Well, the Apple Store is open again! The iPod mini is a fact.
Unfortunatly, it’s $249 for a 4GB hard drive version of the iPod. I’m sorry, but that’s too much! Why would I spend $250 for 4GB when I can add an extra $50 and get 15GB.
Apple REALLY needs to come out with a “solid state” iPod that uses some kind of flash RAM that can be changed by the user. More importantly, they need to get into the $100 market.
I don’t understand why they think that people who can’t afford $299 will be able to afford $249!
Ah well, maybe next MacWorld…

AppleMatters: Next To The iPod Everything Else Is Ugly
dave i read on this site that the Phillips player uses the same hardware as the iPod (same portalplaya chips same small hard disk). I guess all they are missing is the scroll wheel. Do Apple have a lock on this as a patent or something? And I’ve never seen the Phillips for sale in America so I think it’s a Euro only thing. Maybe they have a deal with Apple?

I want bluetooth, but this looks clunky. I kind of expected something looking more akin to Griffin accessories such as the iTrip.

CMM might not be far from the truth. If you pre-order this expecting it in April, you’ll probably be getting it by the time Fall terms start in September.

Looks versitile, but whilst the case boasts a protective clear cover with no holes, the top corners of the Ipod remain totally exposed. This, in my opinion, seems a little remiss since damage may occur to the Ipod if, like my Ipod, it is carried in a bag when not in use. I would like to see the Ipod TOTALLY wrapped before I would purcahse this case.

Aesthetically, I’ say the Philips HDD100 is the only other hard drive mp3 player that ranks up there with the ipod.

iPod ads "do a terrific job of seducing and selling"
yeh, i agree with systimax, they don’t tell you anything except “if you buy *this* you will end up doing *this*... still, makes people want them even when they don’t know what they are
perhaps they could’ve slipped the words mp3 player in somewhere, wouldn’t've hurt them

Jc, theres a passthrough for your own external mic, so if the cables long enough, you can have the recorder sitting on top of your iPod in your pocket, and just have the ext. mic in your hand…

I’m not sure if you can use a good bitrate JC, i think it’s just if you need a better quality mic, they didnt say anything about being able lo change the apple-set bitrate…
