I can tell you why it only got 4 out of 5 stars in features. Does it have an FM tuner? No. How about a voice recorder? No. LCD remote? No. Support for a bunch of different media types? No.

I love my iPod, but that doesn’t blind me to the fact that it’s a little thin on features.

WebUser: iPod Almost Perfect

The Ipod is perfect in every conceivable way - it is timeless, classy, sexy, beautiful, intelligent, and will be in its present form for all of eternity.  It is the quintessential icon throughout the entire universe, including multiverses, representing the highest echelon in terms of style, art, technological supremacy, and function.  In it, we find the answers to mankind’s most perplexing questions.  It is the tangible manifestation of the plain of higher spiritual existence, consisting of Einstein, Mother Theresa, and the Beatles all wrapped up into one.  The Ipod is a spring of life, and from it, flows the waters of undeniable truths and life’s purpose.  It is a juicy, swollen strawberry in the basket of existence.  It is a tender lilly in the tippy-toed frolics through the gardens of happiness.  It is the apple of the eye of mankind, the centerpiece of the spirit, the feng shui of the mind, the mirror to the soul.  The earth revolves around the sun and the in the center of the sun rests the white monolith.  God may indeed have his own Ipod.

OK, that’s stupid.  The Ipod is cool.  The end.

YYWWVV, good question.  I think most people would side with you, but I can see the counterargument too.  I do this with my cds too because sometimes it’s just easier/faster to dl than to rip.

ColorWave offers custom painting for iPods and more

Mark,

You need to chill out.  Why is it stupid to customize your Ipod, to make it unique?  It’s not stupid to customize your computer, but it’s stupid to customize a device that you value?  Whatever.  And trust me, this is not EVEN comparable to that stupid gold dock.  Are you upset because you don’t have $50 to spend?  You’ve got too much anger.  Join a gym.

*************

And Dump,

Yeah, great advice.  Get a girl on the street.  Is that the only way you can get a girl?  Why don’t you get a life and find something constructive to add.

*************

There’s nothing saying it’ll scratch, especially if you keep it in a case and take care of it, instead of tossing it around like a freakin hockey puck like a retard.  At least customizing it would make it stand out a bit from all the boring, stale, clinic-colored white Ipods out there.  Dare to be different.

I would follow Doug’s comments on any iPod item; there have been way too many delays (Griffin, iSkin) for anyone to preorder anything.

XtremeMac Announces Xtremity iPod Accessory System

I am not very happy with Extreme Mac right now. I ordered one of their iPod cases in AUGUST!!  EARLY AUGUST!! and have yet to receive it. I have called numerous times and been told that at any moment they should received them to send out. After awhile that gets pretty stale. My recommendation - if you preorder hold your breath. I for one will wait until I see the product is already in and shipping

USATODAY: 41 more sued over music downloads

I, as I guess a lot of people, have music on vinyl - so I have already purchased the music.  The music industry changes formats from analogue to digital.  I either spend hours reformatting my analogue music to digital or buy music, already own (and have already paid my dues to RIAA), in a digital format.  The question is - If I download a song I already own is this theft?

Windows: iPodSync 2.21 released

For the French people out there, just to let you know that this version has not solved the accent problem when synchronizing your outlook calendar. Accentuated letters will be replaced with Japanese (or is it Chiese) characters ! Srangely enough, there no problem whatsover with “contacts”.

SimpleSpeaker and iPodSaver Art Edition Released

I’ve had passive speaker systems for portable audio before. Like yup said, “crappy sound is better than no sound” in certain situations. Most passive speaker systems i’ve had don’t get very loud. If you try to overdrive them they distort big time.

Sound quality aside, i see some trouble with the design. Something that big, no matter how light it might be, could damage the headphone jack in the long run if you aren’t carefull. It’s a neat and conveniant “wireless” design, however, i wouldn’t use that speaker system while moving around, adding the risk of bumping, bending, or breaking the headphone jack.

How is an engraving on the back of an iPod gonna “mark it against theft.”

Nothin’ a little sandpaper can’t erase.

Windows: iPodSync 2.21 released

Outlook 2003 won’t display images or run scripts or anything dangerous like that unless the e-mail is from a trusted person, ie someone on your contact lists - this is set by DEFAULT. - This is how all software should be from ms, but unfortunately in the past hasnt.

I can’t wait for my ipod to arrive to start using this sync software, it’ll put my pda out of use!
