Open Letter to Apple Concerning the Mistreatment of Apple Customers

I’ve been in the world of technoloy for a long time, Bob. Computers are obsolete in 4 months, not MP3 players, sorry that’s just how it works. Not only that, but the fact that technology works in that fashion isn’t because of software limitations, as is the case here, but because of hardware limitations, which is the case with laptops and other computers in general. The classic iPod can support 2.0.1 features, and apple not giving them to us is a software limitation.

iPod Software 2.0.1 Update Released

I have a request for any user of the new iPods.  Would you please e-mail me your SysInfo file that is stored on your iPod?  I think I may have found a way to trick an older gen iPod into thinking that it is a newer iPod and thus updating the firmware.  I managed to trick my iPod into thinking it had firmware 2.0 (at which point the iPod manager software told me I needed to update to 2.01, but it wouldn’t allow me because it still said it was incompatible with the hardware.  So if anyone with a new iPod would please e-mail me the SysInfo file that is located within “iPod_ControlDevice” I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

iPod Software 2.0.1 Update Released

Even better than the clicks being gone for me is that none of my songs skip anymore!  Before the update I was keeping my iPod in its box because using it pissed me off too much since 1/3 of my songs just skipped to the next track at various random times.  Not so anymore.  Now my $400 toy may be usable.

iPod Software 2.0.1 Update Released

improved backlight—> apparently if you selected ‘always on’ for the backlight, it woudln’t stay on the way it should. also. i think they added the 2 second option for the backlight sleep timer…

improved playback performance—> i think this is a all encompassing thing - the clicks are gone, seems like the menus work better (no lags) and just general touching up of the code.

improved alarm clock—> this means it acually works on my iPod now ;)

i’m sure basically this was just a ton of fixes under the hood, and the few biggies got taken care of too.

maybe they’ll release a better changelog soon.

iPod Software 2.0.1 Update Released

Robert-

You are quite right, the click between songs is gone. That was the only thing that bothered me. Thank you Apple, thank you.

BTW, the 2.0.1 updater will not work on older Pods, only Pods that use the new dock. The new 10, 15 and 30GB.

Is there a way I can use ephPod to put it on my gen 3?  I have win98 and the OS isn’t supported by the update…

"Pop" between tracks exists on all iPods?

Man, you people must all be audiophiles. Constantly complaining about a little click between tracks. Does it disrupt the song at all…no. Deal with it…its only a little click, its not the end of the world…

iPod Software 2.0.1 Update Released

Has anyone tried using 2.0.1 on a 1st or 2nd gen ipod?  I sold my older 1st gen 10gig or I would have tried it myself.  Just curious.  You can always go back to 1.2.6 or 1.3 whatever applies.  I could be wrong though so don’t flame me if you try it and it kills your ipod.  I don’t think it will… kill your ipod, that is.

iPod Software 2.0.1 Update Released

You’ve taken some on the chin over there!

Me. I’m not so bothered I have something which works, and works well, so I’‘m mostly happy with what I’ve got. It’s just the (continued) contempatble attitude from Apple which riles me. Superb product but IMO they have demonstrated they can be as arrogant as Redmond underneath the skin.

Perhaps they think we’ll all be fawning over new ipods when iTunes for Windows materialises. I don’t think so.

They will have to introduce track crossfading before I’ll buy another ipod now.
