Open Letter to Apple Concerning the Mistreatment of Apple Customers

ID, I have a question. I’ve noticed all the talk about these song ratings. Why are they so desirable? They don’t seem as useful to me as on the go playlists, especially if it functions correctly.

Warning: Don't buy an European iPod, its volume is too low

I have to agree with the post above concerning headphones. I prefer to use Grado SR60’s which although designed to be driven by portable appliances, still require slightly more driving than earphones. I find the output on the iPod to be the only dissapointing thing about it, it is definately lower in volume than both my minidiscman and my wife’s discman.

I bought some MDR-EX71SL earphones which are a marked improvement on the ones that ship with the pod, ie I can actually use them on the train. The phones are still to quiet though unless I have the volume set to well over 75-80% - which then bothers me since I hate having to set it so high.

It’s not that hard to release a software patch for this issue. The patch doesn’t need to be region specific all it needs is a legal disclaimer to cover the French region disclaiming all liability if you choose to install it and are French. Presumably if this was available from the Apple.com AMERICAN site it wouldn’t be covered under European law.

Sort it out Apple, you are hobbling a perfectly decent product.

Open Letter to Apple Concerning the Mistreatment of Apple Customers

Billy, having not even bought an iPod you’re one to talk about someone not spending their own money. Why would I lie in an open letter to a company about using my scholarship money in which I complain about them not being open to us. My parents work long hours many days a week just to pay for their cars and our house. I wish they had the money to pay for my iPod. Don’t you think if my parents were those kind of people I could just ask them to buy me another one? If they’re so loaded as you think why don’t I just go try that instead of taking my time to write what I did, make what I make, and post here. Please, if you can’t stop trying to think you know me, at least make your arguent make sense.

Oh yeah, BTW I used HWANG.

yep i hope everyone can realise that we all have different needs, and it would be ideal if Apple could cater to all of them. However it does seem quite worrying if you have to listen to music at full blast to enjoy it, perhaps it’s better to lay off earphones for a bit?

Also, Billy, looking back at my posts I’m proud. Do you know why? I didn’t sound whiny and I certainly did not embarass myself. Neither did anyone who posted in my favor. Why? We all had the best points. No matter what anyone has said I’ve come back with a better response. Not only that, but you people have also replied with the same thing over and over ad infinitum. You do realize that in any form of debate (not that I was on a debate team BTW, though speech was a required class at my highschool) repeating your points is a sign of a weak argument. I’ve been not only non-repetitive in my replies to the same topics but also innovative with my own arguments. You’ve said the same thing as many other people on this post and you know what? You’re no more correct than they are and believe me, they weren’t.

"Old and New iPods, Side-by-Side" Review

I had some requests for iPod pictures, so I added a couple to the review.  The wheel on the new iPod is pretty washed out, but since there are no moving parts, there isn’t enough variance between it and the rest of the face of the iPod for the camera to really pick it out.  And it doesn’t help that they are all white.  The picture of the two side by side shows how much more rounded the new iPods are, but also that they really aren’t as much smaller as one might assume.

Open Letter to Apple Concerning the Mistreatment of Apple Customers

Billy, unlike a childish little kid playing many games like showdown, I happened to do other things during my teenage life. I only played Soul Calibur because I bowled and we’d play that before league play, but I much preferred pool. That iPod was paid for by me, if you’d like to see the receipt for it with my debit card number on it and my debit card itself I’d show you if that would prove it but I have nothing to prove to you, especially since I’m not going to just post a graphic of my card on the net because of identity fraud, however I believe the receipt does have my name on it so when I get my digital camera back I’ll take a picture of it. My parents pay for jack squat because they don’t have college educations and lots of money just so you know. Oh and BTW you’re an ass. Do you honestly think some internet twit will really hurt my feelings. Call me a whiney baby, call me a brat. Ask anyone who knows me, like Bob. I just want what I pay for because I don’t have lots of money to spend but I do pay for every damn thing I own, so instead of sitting at home on your ass, why don’t you do something productive so you don’t have to complain where you don’t belong. And, BTW, if you think I don’t work, remember I post on here usually at 2:00 AM eastern, after I get home from work. Don’t ever come on here and talk about someone as if you know them. How dare you say that about me.

ID, I’m also angry about the bugs. Like when I go to play a song and the one after it plays.

Open Letter to Apple Concerning the Mistreatment of Apple Customers

This type of discussion has always seemed off-target to me…

I’ve had my G2 20GB WiniPod for nearly a year now.

Since Apple’s implementation of OTG PlayList is so flawed as to be nearly useless (if you don’t understand what I mean, try reading some of the threads in the forum!), there is actually very little functionality in the v2 firmware that I find desirable, though I do like the updateable ratings.

In other words, I can live without having the v2 firmware translated for my G2 iPod.

What I don’t understand, is why I seem to be the only WiPod owner who is upset by Apple’s failure to fix the WiPod firmware bugs?!?!

When I bought my WiPod, I fully expected it to have the same functionality as the MiPods.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that not only were some functions not working correctly on my WiPod, but some had been deliberately disabled!  But I assumed that Apple had simply rushed the WiPods out the door early, and would fix these issues with a later firmware upgrade.  Now I find that not only has nearly a year gone by, but Apple has actually replaced my iPod with a newer model.  It now seems like Apple had no intention of ever fixing these bugs! (For a complete list of these bugs, please do a search on the Windows iPod forum)

I really don’t understand why more WiPod owners aren’t upset by this betrayal.

I do believe in “Voting with my Wallet”, so, unless Apple fixes this situation, the iPod will be the first and last Apple product I ever own.  And since I still have a couple of weeks left on my warranty, I’m considering trying to get Apple to either fix my iPod or refund my money!

Now that’s a petition I could get behind!

Warning: Don't buy an European iPod, its volume is too low

Having just read this article, I decided to test out the line out function. Let me just jog your memory from your article :

“But not only the headphone jack is capped, also the line out: That means, that if you connect your iPod to a stereo at home or in the car, you have to turn the volume of that stereo way up what in many cases is causing sound-distortions.”

I know for a fact you’re misinformed. Simply plugging the car jack into the headphone socket, does not make it a line out, its still a headphone jack, jack (sorry, couldn’t resist that).

The line-out is actually on the dock. Having taken a set of speakers, and connected the up to first the HEADPHONE jack, then the line out, the difference in volume is astonishing.

For in-car audio, I would suggest the purchase of a second dock (or use your existing one), and connect the car to that. You don’t need to supply power to the dock, simply having the iPod in the dock and plugging the car audio jack into the line out socket is enough.

I’m sure it won’t be long before some bright spark creates a cable that plugs into the dock, and has a headphone jack on it, thus circumventing the euro volume cap. And hey, if anyone reads this and does it I want a cut! ;)

I’m perfectly happy with my 30gig iPod, AND I traded in a 20gig older model to get it.

Warning: Don't buy an European iPod, its volume is too low

As Alex says, if you can’t hear the iPod at max volume, then either you’ll be ruining your hearing, or your earphones are lousy!

I have a pair of low-impedance phones, and I can’t turn the volume up beyond about a third…  In fact, with those in, I wish there was more control in the very bottom end of the scale!

Dell delays iPod shipping

Steve wrote:
“They sell it at the best price around, received many more orders than they could possibly fill, but don’t make this out to be thier fault.”

YES IT IS THEIR FAULT!  They have forecasting methods that will tell them if they price @ X, they will sell X.  They priced it at the discount FULLY KNOWING they could not fill the orders and would dissapoint a lot of customers with a long wait…

For those that got one on time, it was a good deal…but for Dell, it was not worth the negative impression of being out of stock…

Someone at Dell probably got an A$$ chewing for pricing it this way…

I tried for fifteen minutes and on four different browsers to place an order at the Lajo site. It is one of the most confusingly designed store sites I have ever encountered. I’m buying covers from someone else.

Warning: Don't buy an European iPod, its volume is too low

The iPod is plenty loud enough with ear bud headphones. If you can’t hear it on a bus, or train, your either on some increadibly loud bus/train, or you have totally screwed up hearing. I have plugged it into my stereo, and yes it was a bit quiet, but turning the voume up a bit did the trick just fine. If your getting distortion from turning the volume up, you probably have a shity stereo/amp or somesuch.

Your argument to say to apple to get them to take your iPod back is utter crap. They do not say anything of the output volume on their webpage. They are not advertising anything about its output volume. The EU iPod is useable like any other MP3 player in that you can plug it into an Hi-Fi if you so desire, yes you have to turn the volume up, but so what? If it distorts, get a better stereo.

I imagine they hard limited it because firmware is rather hard to lock to a specific country without country specific hardware.

Studied law and economics did you, dont suppose you passed by any chance?

iPod owners are so bloody whiny these days.
