"iPod Envy: Dealing With The idea That You Can't Have It All"
the other day I was checking out the new ipods and I asked the Apple sales rep. “why doesn’t Apple make a firmware update for the “old” ipods, one simular to the firmware used in the new ipods.” his answer “because apple wants you to buy a new one.” Apple is a lame company, they show no loyalty to their customers, they never have.

"Pop" between tracks exists on all iPods?
Hey Mp3 is not a gapless format Mike ! Ok the click’s are bad, but you will never get a live album to play gapless!

Mac: AAChoo 1.2 Released
Also, why would anyone pay $15 to do this, when you can just use iTunes for free?

Mac: PodWorks 2.8.3 released
Billy,
You can, but the folder containing the music folder is hidden, preventing you from easily copying songs off your iPod.

Mac: AAChoo 1.2 Released
Is it actually wise to convert your mp3s to AAC? Seems like you’re just asking for poor quality audio.

Update: iPod Software 1.3 vs. 2.0
I have a new 15gb ipod that I use with Windows. Does anyone know how to make the alarm go off to music instead of the “beep”. I can find no reference of it anywhere, and the Apple documentation is entirely too simplistic.

Toshiba posts information on new 15 and 30GB drives
It would be interesting to see someone update their old ipods with 30G drives and make it work. I can’t see how it can’t be done if you get a hold of one of these drives.

CNET: Hackers: iTunes can be shared over Net
This sounds like what we used to do back in the day, when we could hear a song on the radio and record it to tape. It wasn’t the greatest quality, but I can’t imagine a stream being better than the original too.
I don’t use the feature, but it’s nice that it’s there. This is part of the Rendesvouz magic, is it not? It’s not hacking!!!

CNET: Hackers: iTunes can be shared over Net
What I don’t understand is all the hubub about “hacking” and “hidden” or “secret” features in iTunes. While the SpyMac search function definitely takes things a few steps into this realm, let’s please not get too in awe of the people who merely stream iTunes libraries over the Internet. Keep in mind that the iTunes “Advanced” menu has a “Connect to shared music…” option built right into it which allows anyone the full capability to stream another Mac’s music without the need for any “hacking” or poking around. Apple clearly had no intention of “hiding” this feature.
All that most of these sites do is collect IP addresses and preface the URLs with a “daap:/”. That’s not hacking.

CNET: Hackers: iTunes can be shared over Net
Unfortunately, even streaming requires a license from the copyright holder. It makes no difference that the file is not actually saved on the recipient’s computer. Any “broadcast” of copyrighted music would be a copyright violation.

Audible: Free month trial and more for new iPod owners
Kudos to Apple for supporting Audible.com. I’ve been a happy Audible member for two+ years, and it was the Audible.com support that finally got me to shell out the $$ for an iPod.

Apple: iPod (with Dock Connector) Manuals Posted
I found something interesting…One the manual it says to charge iPod, but says on the Mac you can just plug it into your computer because the computer charges it…but the Windows computers do that to…
Also I love how they don’t call it “the iPod” , but just “iPod”.

Windows: DeviceLink 1.0 for MoodLogic Released
I don’t know about limitations with the trial, but I used the devicelink to transfer all of my songs to the new iPOD, not just playlists. It worked perfectly.

CNET: Hackers: iTunes can be shared over Net
Well, i remember to recall people streaming files and other people just converting that stream to a file on their disk. Depending on the ‘quality’ of you stream, i suppose you could be ‘downloading’ the file through the stream ...
Correct me if i am wrong too

Windows: DeviceLink 1.0 for MoodLogic Released
I have used the devicelink trial. For one thing, it’s buggy as hell. the other thing is it’s pretty bloody expensive (20 bucks) for something that simply loads playlists onto the ipod. No option to add songs. Money better spent on Xplay.

Windows: DeviceLink 1.0 for MoodLogic Released
I have used Moodlogic for about 6 months, and I find it very usefull. It does have a few bugs. I have about 1375 ripped CD songs, and Moodlogic has “activated” 98% of them. I have a fairly broad variety of music, from Beethoven. to Hank Williams, to The White Stripes. The “activation” percentage has gone up dramatically over the time I have subscribed, particularly in the past couple of months. I recently bought the new iPOD and transferred all my music to it using Moodlogic’s Devicelink.

CNET: Hackers: iTunes can be shared over Net
I believe that it only is sharing, not copying. So if you’re just sharing music (streaming it) then you’re fine. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

Windows: DeviceLink 1.0 for MoodLogic Released
Actually, I just finished trying it out, and I have to recant my previous statement. The program does not look great at first glance. It is heavily dependent on what seems to be a very invasive subscription service.
The “free trial” program will first find your music files, and then it spends about 3-5 minutes “activating” about 100 of your songs. This activation process is crucial - only activated files are eligible for the program’s features. You have to spend more money for “song credits” if you want more than the allotted number activated.
Before using any of the program’s touted features, including automatic file renaming and auto playlisting, you have to pay at least $29.99. And then, you can only use their features on your “activated music” if you are connected to the internet.
Also, it seems that only certain songs are in their database (naturally), and presumably this database is what allows for automatic file tagging and other features to work. Of the songs that were selected for activation in my trial version, more than half of them did not have automatic information available for them.
Although it looks as though the program’s advertised features might be nice, I am unwilling to spend the $30 to give it a real try. Musicmatch’s SuperTagging feature, flawed though it is, will be my auto-tagger of choice for now.
If anyone does subscribe, please let us know your results.
