Classic iPod owners' frustration with Apple makes headlines
...(not trying to be venomous)
um… if they’re significant features, how is it unreasonable to buy a new ipod?
i still like my old ipod just fine, thanks: that’s how i bought it. to all the other cheap complainers: as said before, if you don’t like it, well, goodbye!

Now I’m reading that the line-in will be on an enhanced remote that will also have a mic. Can anyone confirm this?

PowerMax: Trade-in your old iPod and get a new iPod
Guys, 5 gb Ipods on Ebay that aren’t even working are going for $90 with time still left. Getting $100 for your working one, is not the deal of the century. Sure, for convenience, it’s not bad, but it ain’t amazing.

iTunes Music Store Sells Over One Million Songs in First Week
Advanced Calculus 201
110,000 online iPod order + 20,000 retail iPod sales = 130,000 iPods in one week.
For argument’s sake, average price of iPod is $399.
130,000 * $399 = $51,870,000 in one week
I bet a lot of people bought new iPods because Apple got them excited about music again. iTMS is about getting people excited about music and the sales of iPods certainly isn’t chump change.

iTunes Music Store Sells Over One Million Songs in First Week
Calculus 101:
$1M / week = $52M / yr * ~30% =~ $16 M / yr *90% =~ $14M / yr
30% of the gross income is what apple keeps.
90% of the gross profit minus upkeep.
OK, apple added 14Mil to the bottom line. IBM sells one dingy server and makes more profit. It’s not going to keep apple alive.
But it goes a long way towards goving them some face.

iTunes Music Store Sells Over One Million Songs in First Week
Rumor has it that iPod software/firmware 2.0 WILL be available for older iPods, but we’ll just have to wait a while. The new iPods are different hardware in some ways, so the same exact firmware updater won’t work. I’m sure they put getting the new junk on the iPods about to be released at a way higher priority than getting it on existing iPods, but that doesn’t mena that it won’t happen. My prediction for iPod software 2.0 for gen 1&2 iPods: mid-summer.
Software 1.3 has the MOST important thing I wanted anyway, AAC support. The rest is just extra stuff.

Tim, you are looking at the wrong photos.
“Here are photos of an old iPod 20GB dissection for comparison purposes.”
Try to keep up.

iTunes Music Store Sells Over One Million Songs in First Week
Well if you reread the article you will see it includes the number of new model ipod’s sold so far so that is where I based my comment from and also take Ahead nero burning software for example they have been giving updates since it first begun and they are on 10.x now.

How does that relate to the music sales? The 1.3 update lets you use the new iTunes on the old iPods. And they are going to release a Windows version, this year.
Most companies only offer free updates through that version number (ie 1.0-1.99) but not to the next whole version. (ie 2.0) Why should Apple be any different? Yeah, it sucks, but it’s nothing new.

There is no lin-in on the dock…yet. Look for something from Apple with a line-in in a few months.

Aditional to bandwith, many ISP’s have limits on traffic that can sent from one’s IP address. If I started to share my music with many people, I think my ISP would pull the plug on my connection.

So how much bandwith does sharing use? How many people could share my library before everything would grind to halt.

A Word of Warning Regarding the New Artwork Feature in iTunes 4
Will the old artwork remain if I replace with a new artwork file???
I have replaced some files with artwork of smaller size, am I simply adding even more size to the pre-existing size???

actually, when you share your iTunes across the LAN or internet, you only STREAM the song, not actually move the file across the network.
