The top photo was submitted by a reader and the bottom photo was taken by me in my closet. No Photoshoping. I added captions to the above photos for clearification. I’d like more readers to email me their photos of a blue backlight iPod.

Updated: Is the backlight supposed to be blue?

what motive would someone have for photoshopping a pic? i hope people who have these very blue pods share more info. i’m curious if they are different in other ways. I know that MY new 15 GB is FAR more blue than the bottom picture (which isn’t blue at all), but not NEARLY as blue as the top picture. What’s with that? i admit that I am so anxious for my bugs to be resolved (i don’t consider the screen to be a bug, but if this pod looks more like the advertised pod maybe it acts more like it too) that I may be creating senerios in my head, but, whatever, let’s see what comes of this.

never once have i heard any official word on “higher resolution”

higher contrast, however, i have. so this is most definately what the apple guy was getting at.

He might be right, but: isn’t it weird that a display model at the store have all that music on it? Also, I notice that the red light on the bottoms are dark red in the picture with the blue-ish screen, and pale orange in the picture with the white screen.

Finally, I don’t see any sign of “new high resolution” in the blue-ish picture. If the screen differs from the 160 by 128 resolution, it would be noticble, even in those pictures.

I think that there has been some Photoshoping going on here.

Color differences also occur in different film exposures and type that is used. The slight blue tint has always been there to some extent.

Apple KBase: iTunes 4 Tips & Tricks

Anyone know how to browse your library by Genre? When I click on the browse “eye”-con, only artists and album columns appear. I think I’ve seen someone browse their library with 3 columns, the third being genre. Just wondering how this is done.

Online Petition for Firmware Updates for Classic iPods

Quote: Actualy when I bought my ipod I was told there would be future updates and the firmware was sold as a feature.  I paid for an upgradable product.

You were told there would be future updates perhaps.  But updates that necessarily added features?  I find that really hard to believe.  Did you go in and buy the unit,  not being really happy with it from the get go but hoping it would be satisfactory later? Here’s a clue:  NEVER buy something under that pretense.

So is this iPod with the blue LED also static-pop-between-songs free and does it not switch right/left frequencies when you press pause? If so, I’m going to return mine.

"Pop" between tracks exists on all iPods?

Got the new 30GB and sure enough the click/pop/tick is there.
Here’s a solution, feel free to shoot me down.
In iTunes when encoding, join all the tracks. That should satisfy all you Floyd fans out there. I had to perform this with Outkast’s Stankonia with loads of tracks.
Think I’ll have a shot with the The Wall right now.

Online Petition for Firmware Updates for Classic iPods

Quote from my ipod manual…
“Apple periodically updates iPod software to improve performance or add features.”

Lets hope this is true.. since I’ve bought my ipod there has only been two updates and they did not add any new features.  Also the 1.3 software that was suposed to be availible early may is still not availible to windows users.

Online Petition for Firmware Updates for Classic iPods

Part of the advantage of upgradeable firmware is the ease with which a product can be upgraded with new features.  Many first and second generation iPod owners have submitted suggestions to Apple for new iPod features through Apple’s “feedback” page hoping that Apple would add these features in future firmware updates.  I’m sure that many took the time to do this with the understanding that Apple would make the new features available to ALL iPod owners.  It would be a real shame for Apple to turn its back on the very people who have helped to make the iPod such a great sales success!

Online Petition for Firmware Updates for Classic iPods

Well,  this petition has a beligerent tone and two.  The customer’s who purchased these iPods purchased them because of the features they had at the time of purchase.  Nobody promised old iPod owners they would receive the same features as the new ones and this is fair. I bought a 700mhz iBook last year, when apple release the new 800mhz would it have been reasonable for me to expect a free upgrade?  Afterall,  aside from more hard drive space how is Apple expected to drive sales of the new units?  Apple has a responsiblity to it’s customer’s-I am one but they also have a responsibility to it’s shareholder’s - I am one

Updated: Is the backlight supposed to be blue?

I for one am glad that the backlight is white not blue. White backlights are not common, blue is. If the iPod had a blue backlight it would look very common like a cell phone. I think the white is very distinctive and classy. As for the article about display iPods having higher resolution, that really ticks me off! Also the pictures could depict a blue screen if Apple played around with the white balance of their iPod photos.
