Today, I received my Sony's MDR-EX71SL from warehouse123.com. I was very impressed with the shipping service, I got the phones within three days. The phones sound, and, look great with my iPod. The isolation they give is very impressive , very little of the outside world can be heard. I am able to hear parts of songs i haven't heard before. Also, they are the most comfortable earphones I have had. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a good sounding pair of earphones under $50.00.

I just got the white 71s delivered from Audiocubes.com. Purchased on Thursday and they arrived on Monday from Osaka. Amazingly fast.

Anyway I am not noticing all of the bass that people were describing here. They are extremely light and comfortable, but I was looking forward to hear them be really bass heavy. Oh well, maybe I will get it adjusted eventually in my ear and will hear it better.

Also, it does sound like you have your fingers in your ears when you are listening to these. You will hear yourself swallow and breathe. Difficult to talk at a normal level with them in too, hehe.

I just bought a pair of white MDR-EX71SL from warehouse123.com after reading this review. I was thinking about the E2c's for a while but i thought i could save myself a few extra bucks and just get the EX71's. I hope they are as good as you guys say they are. I'll post again after i get them in the mail and test them out.

I do not understand how anybody could like these. I guess people just don't realize that music can sound real and live through headphones. These are shrill, nasal and totaly colored. I reccommend ER4 or ER6's by Etymotic. I actually prefer a less portable Grado SR225 over anything. I ride my bike with Grado's, Ipod and an amp.

If you can stand having a "black" earphone instead of a white one, the older MDR-EX51LP is the same headphone, with a slightly different external styling, no extension cord (since it's the LP), and 10 bucks less.

Save Money!!!!

Buy the 51's. They are the same exact buds just different colors and no fancy pants case. Do you leave them in your pocket or in your ears. $10.00 for a case seems a little steep to me. Same exact phones though check sony's site. These are great buds. I listen to a lot of Worship music and I had to chuckle when I noticed that I could hear the sound of hushed congregations right before some songs. These are great.

My 71's arrived from Hong Kong today after a 2 week wait. I have to say I am disappointed. I do not like the sound at all and forget about the short cord. Much prefer the Apple earbuds.

Originally got these for my old minidisc player after reading good reviews online. Couldn't. Be. Happier. Best pair of headphones I have.

Pros: Great sound. Loud full range (I usually sent the volume to a little lower than normal due to the noise blocking, so I save a little battery!). They are also comfy.

Cons: Cheap case. Have to wrap the cord around my ear to keep them in place while jogging, otherwise they fall out. Also, you better keep your ears clean if you use these regularly, as earwax and other crud tends to build up otherwise. Ew. Although to be fair, that isn't a con for these headphones so much as it is one for my personal hygiene.

i've been using the ex70sl for two years, and the sound is superior. but when i broke the line and had to fall back on my $15 fontopias (the ones with the much-loved volume control), i realized how much midrange i'd been missing. some of my new music, i was just hearing for the first time, it seemed. it's a dilemma, because i don't think there's anything out there that matches the quality of the sony nudes. now i'm searching for something that gives me what i had AND what i just discovered was missing. if you get the nudes (the 70s or 71s), you'll probably be more than satisfied. just don't listen to anything else because, in this case, what you don't know won't hurt you!

Having recently purchased the apple in ear buds and found it almost impossible to get a decent seal on my right ear I purchased a set of the sony fontopia 71"s - this was a mistake - the sound quality was vastlt inferior to the apple buds and the neck cord is badly thought out, too short on the one side and the cord hangs on the left where as most people wear ipods on the right.

I made use of the sony bud covers to replace the apple covers and the apple buds now fit perfectly and sound great - if only apple would sell their buds with these covers.

Just got the MDR-EX71SL/W phones and they are a marked improvement over the IPod phones. I didn't notice the age of the comments but thanks for the tip!

i just bought a set of the 71s in black (sorry, but i prefer NOT to advertise to the world that i've got an ipod clipped to my waist), after having snapped the line on my 70s. some folks here suggest the specs are the same. my ears beg to differ, and i'm really quite disappointed. the 71s are much brighter, so much so that the treble on some of my music is almost unbearable. i have never, on any piece of audio equipment, summoned bass boost, but that's my eq setting on my pod right now, just to try to put a damper on the treble. i'm very unhappy because i've sung the praises of the 1st-gen nudes to everyone. i suspect this was sony's attempt to pump up the midrange, which was lacking a bit yet tolerable in the 70s. sony failed. now i'm gonna scour the web for the old 70s.
