i got a pair of these in white from Hong Kong, i've been using them for around a year now and they are really cool. they are so comfy, you can even sleep with them on.
the white ones certainly look good with the pod but the black are the same....i quess the white is a tell tale that you have a pod under your shirt though! and we want the world to know we've got one right!

I just received a pair of the MDR-EX71SL/W from Warehouse123.com. They took 11 day's to get from Hong Kong to Florida. They fit perfect and sound wonderful. The short cord is too short to put your iPod in your pants pocket, the extention is too long to for your pants pocket. Where are you suppose to carry your iPod? typical, nothing fits me right! Also, I don't care for the different lengths on the earpiece cables. I see no advantage to put the right side earpiece cable behind your head.

All in all much better fit and sound than stock iPod earphones...worth $50.00

They seem too quiet vs. other headphones I have. Also, mine are very trebly and lack any bass oomph. Don't know if this is just my ears or a problem with the Sonys.

On the good side, they are very comfortable. I've slept in them, using them as earplugs.

At this point, I wish I'd spent the extra $$ on the Shures or Etymotics.

By the way, the above is regarding the white ex71s I ordered from Japan. I agree with another post above about them being shrill. Strange, some have said "amost too much bass." This is exactly opposite of how mine sound.

Also, the cord is too short without the extension, and then too long with it.

The assymetrical length to the ear buds is annoying to me.

Again, they are comfortable and seem well made. Maybe I got a bad unit. I could live with the annoyances if they sounded as good as some have claimed here.

Hmm, buy.com has them for 29.99 in black - is it really worth getting them in white????

OK -- 3d time the charm. I replaced the medium (standard) rubber "doughnuts" for the large ones. Night and day! Now I have bass, treble is less shrill, and I'm a lot happier.

Strange, the medium ones fit very well & seemed the right size.

So, try the other sizes and different placement. It seems very important for these.

They are still more quiet than others and the cord situation is a little annoying.

however, the audio is 100% better now.

3d time is a charm -- I put the large rubber doughnuts on instead of the medium (which seemed to fit fine) and: PRESTO! 100% imrovement.

So, try the different sizes and different positions. I now get the best sond when I hear the least outside noise, usually a moderate way into the ear canal.

I agree with the majority of people here. These headphones definitely outperform the ones include with the iPod. They've got good bass and high response. I'm not sure about the midrange. And for $50, these aren't a bad buy. A lot cheaper than the Shures and Etymonics. I run in these and they do fall out every so often but I think that mainly due to the way I was wearing them. I could figure out why there's a sort cord on the left and a longer one on the right. Problem solved. The weight is no longer pulling them out. Also, make sure you really have a solid seal when fitting. It makes all the difference to the sound. And clean out those ears!!!

These headphones are really good and the cord problem can be solved with either a remote, or using the extension cord and then tucking it in a little bit.

I purchased a set of MRD-EX71SR white earbuds from eBay. After a two hour listen to lots of different types of music, I decided to stick them back in the wrapper and re-list them on eBay. I do not like these headphones AT ALL. The bass is overemphasized, the midrange is muffled and the highs are buried. Even setting the EQ on my G4 iPod to "flat" did little to improve things. They're OK on very simple, acoustic-type selections, but as soon as more instruments join in, the sound gets really muddy and vocals get lost in the mix. I tried other EQ settings, to no avail. I think I'm going to take a deep breath and plunk down $130 on the Etymotic Research ER-6i's. Hopefully they're a lot cleaner than these.

Bought a pair of 71's. Like them. But does anyone else notice the difference in sound quality when using the short cord, vs. the long cord??? When using the long cord exstension, vocals are distant and muffled. anyone else??

I'm confused about the cord length. I don't have a remote. How does the length compare to the standard apple earbuds that came with my 4G ipod?

After reading around 90% positive reviews for these 'phones I bought them. And yes- Sander, tullymon, metalmike, ronfel, geoff and other dissatisfied customers- YOU were right. They DO suck. Are we "idiots" though?
Well, the midrange is very poor and bass is wildly over-extended (and I love bass!). The last word in comfort maybe, but for quality sound? Don't think so.
Obviously the sheer amount of good reviews these 'phones have received must stand for something but my advice is approach with extreme caution and keep the receipt!
