I got my own Mini yesterday. After a long time of deciding, I went for the Mini rather than a G4 20GB iPod or any other brand MP3 player, mainly because I don't need that many space and there's still a price difference. The Mini also looked better and seemed like it had a better interface with the bigger screen and wheel than the nearest competitor(Creative MuVo 2).
I had literally no problems at all setting it up(I installed iTunes two weeks before the Mini arrived so I could sort, rate and organize my songs for it), and song transferring only took a few minutes for about 850 tracks. Updating songs is very easy and fast too, I just hook up the Mini and start iTunes.
Before this I was stuck with a Philips Expanium 311 MP3 CD player, but I hated the slow track change times, the bad battery life(Rechargables didn't help), the general lack of space, the random freezing and the display(Only one line showing either the filename or an ID3v1 tag. It didn't like ID3v2 at all)
This is a most excellent replacement. I can recommend it to anyone who's in a similar situation as me, and only needs about 3.7 GB for good music.

I just opened my mini ipod and started charging it. Does it have to charge the entire four hours the first time? I know that some electronics require the initial charge to be complete or else the battery may be damaged? Is it possible to charge a little, play a little, charge a little, play a little?!?!?!

I recently got a 4GB ipod mini. The 2nd generation with 18 hours playback time. I have charged it more than 12 hours the first time but the battery lasted less than 18 hours, I guess just about 12 hours or maybe it depends on the usage which it what OEM always say but anyhow I am just a music listener, nothing funky like storing stuff.. just dun understand why the batt life is so short when is says it can last up to 18 hours. But what the heck. Its a ipod mini. I love it!
