Natch, right after I posted I found the missing firewire-only car charger. There is one from Macally that is $9 @PC connection but no one knows if it will work with all these adapters:
3G iPod/pocketdock/firewire thin cable/car charger
and I dont think this cheapie car charger has surge protection...
but it's the nicest looking little charger and if it works like this it will be a convenient way to carry around a 6 pin to 6 pin firewire cable instead of a cable that can only be used with the iPod. Versatility.
I hope I am not screwing up!

Can ANYONE attest to the Pocketdock with Line-Out fitting the Vaja iVod Remixed for 4G iPods? Enquiring minds want to know!!!

Just got the Pocketdock with firewire and line-out for playing the iPod in the car. So far, I'm very pleased with the performance of the pocketdock--no distortion or surprises. It's extremely small and seems well made. Unlike the SIK Din, it doesn't have the cables sticking out of it--a much better design than the SIK.

Contour Showcase owners - WATCH OUT! the PocketDock w/ Line Out will NOT fit! the PocketDock w/ line out is HUGE compared to standard dock connectors. Obviously this is to accomodate the 2 ports, but it makes the casing of the connector too big for a lot of cases. It looks like the Sik Din will work, as the connector appears to be the standard size. Even though the cords stick out with that one, at least it will fit - i think. ANYBODY tried the Sik Din with the Contour Showcase?

adding to my last post - if you already have the PocketDock with Line Out, and you don't have a case yet, check out Sendstation's site - they actually list compatible cases at the bottom right of the product page. Wish I'd seen that before, but the Contour Showcase IS a great case.

does anyone know if this will work with iSkin Evo 2? I need to know and did not see it on here or the SendStation site.

I purchased the FireWire + Audio Line Out PocketDock a few days ago and I am very happy with it. The adaptor is tiny and well built so it is very portable.

The line-out signal from it is great. I have plugged it into a mixing desk connected to large monitor speakers and the sound was amazing. I could raise the volume to uncomfortable levels without hearing any distortion.

I also plugged into the PocketDock a pair of headphones (SONY MDR-V250) that have their own volume control. This is what I am most happy about. The signal from the pocket dock is clear and the headphones sound much better than they did when connected through the headphone port of the iPod.

The only minus about this product is the price and the lack of a cover for the FireWire port. FW is more open than USB so dust can built up into it more easilly. I wish there was a plastic that I could cover it with. Also, for AUD $60 I would prefer to get FW cables as well as the included minijack to minijack and minijack to RCA.

Overall I am very happy with it, although I wish Apple would not make a device like this necessary. Surelly the it could be a user selectable option to have a line-out signal come out from the headphone port.

I also wish that a dock with an SPDIF or Coaxial out would be made for the iPod. Every Dolby Digital receiver has those ports. The iPod would sound even better then.

I just bought one (w/Line out), and I'm getting a lot of distortion with my cassette adaptor in my Echo Hatch.

But if I use the headphone port with the cassette adaptor, I get zero distortion !!!

Doesn't look good !

The overall level is quite good though, sounds louder than the CD-player in my Toyota HU. And it fits perfectly in the Belkin Tune-Dock opening.
I just need some way of attaching it to the tune-dock.

In every one of my cars that have a cassete player, all I get is goon volume with loads of distortion. SendStation will not answer e-mails regarding this problem. Do not purchase if you plan to use line out in conjunction with cassete adapter.

Of all the accessories I've bought for my iPod, this is my hands down favorite! Part of the reason I love it is that I have two firewire cables left over from an older G2 iPod, if I'd needed to buy them I might not be so happy. The line-out is quite useful, especially since my iPod in its Agent18 case won't fit in the Apple dock. The included cables are very useful and make this really a good value, in my opinion.

Gina B, BRoge, check this out.

Update : Well, I found out what seems to be the reason for the distortion I am having with my PocketDock w/ Line Out using a cassette adapter.

It's the line level that's too much for a cassette. If you use the headphone jack instead, and keep the volume at 75% tops, there is no distortion.
But, turn it all the way up, you'll get distortion.

So get something with an adjustable line-level (Belkin auto kit) or connect to your HU using its line-in, if it has one.

But the PocketDock is a great little product. I have it with me all the time ! I'll probably see how I can use it's line-out with my car. The line-out is perfect with speakers, no distortion.

I can confirm that the PocketDock is not compatible with the Vaja 4G (40gb/photo) case. The PocketDock is 30mm wide but the dock opening on the Vaja case is no more than 27mm. It definitely does not fit. I purchased both components recently.

Can anyone confirm whether the PocketDock Line Out FireWire works with the iSee20 case from Contour Design? The hole in the bottom looks like it might just barely fit.

I recently got the PocketDock, and love the improvement in sound. However, I've been having a weird problem, I was wondering if anyone else has seen. When my headphones are plugged into the line out of the PocketDock the iPod volume control doesn't seem to work. It only give one volume, moving the iPod volume controls up or down doesn't change it??? It worked normally for about a week, and suddenly developed this problem in the last couple days. if it is a consistent problem others are seeing, I would not recommend this product. If it is fixable, then I think its a great product.

Any ideas?

The whole point of Line-out is to not go through the volume-changing drivers on your iPod, which can cause distortion. NO line-out should respond to the unit's volume controls.
