Regardless of styling differences, I MUCH prefer ####'s exoflp-fb case to iSkin's case for my 40-gig 4G ipod. I also much prefer ####'s TwistClip. I own both cases from both manufacturers. Following are my impressions.

1. iSkin's dock opening is (as it is with the bulk of ####'s case offerings) sized only for Apple's docking cable. The fact that I couldn't use my SendStation PocketDock w/line-out port or my AltecLansing InMotion speakers w/the case on the ipod was REALLY annoying. Now, with ####'s case, I can.

2. ####'s iShade, from what I can tell, doesn't impart a "wet" look to the ipod's screen. The material seems clearer than iSkin's screen protector does, and it seems to stay put better. it's softer, so that contact w/the ipod's screen doesn't seem to be an issue. And I can wash it in warm water if it gets dirty without worrying if any of those 6 little "soft bumps" that iSkin uses on the edges of their screen will come off.

3. Initially, I used iSkin's included belt clip with their case. However, it felt flimsy and like it could break at any time, so I opted to remove it and use one of ####'s TwistClips instead.

When ####'s TwistClip showed up, I went to remove iSkin's clip from their case. The case came away easily enough, but to my utter horror the round, clear plastic disc that iSkin uses to support their clip on the inside of their case was stuck. Fast. To the back of my ipod. And it wasn't moving.

Trying not to freak out, I took a butterknife & attempted to work its tip under the edge of the iSkin disc. Gently, gently. And boom. It popped off. No harm done to the back of my ipod, thankfully, other than a mild sticky residue. But boy oh boy. Talk about bad design on iSkin's part.

All I can say is that for my money, the breadth of choice, both case-wise and color-wise, that #### offers makes using his product over the other silicone offerings on the market pretty much a no-brainer for me.

eben, in response to your comments on the screen protectors, I have noticed that it does, in fact, give the screen a "wet" look. If it touches the screen anywhere, it sticks and definitely looks wet. Maybe you just got lucky. Also, I don't know what you mean when you say the material is clearer. When I compared them, they were exactly the same. And in reference to the fact that ####'s shades stick beter, well I have issue with that. If anything, I trust the iSkin shades more because they don't touch the screen. What if dirt or sand were to get under the #### shade? The 6 soft bumps on the iSKin shade are more than enough to keep it stuck, and I have not yet had a problem with it moving around, nor do I have any worry of the bumps coming off. They really are glued on there well.
You may have gotten a defective disc, because the disc has never gotten stuck to the back of my iPod in the way you've described. You make it sound like it was glued on there, and I can't imagine how that would have happened. The disk certainly stays put while it's on and pressure is applied, but it would never get stuck like that.

I've never used iSkin's included belt clip because I'm afraid the disc will scratch my iPod. ####'s TwistClip seems like a great idea.

The exo3x is perfectly compatible with the iShades, even though ####'s compatibility chart says that it is not. I have had mine for three weeks now, and the screen protector does not budge despite being in my pocket for roughly 8 hours a day.

Posted by hmai18 on November 25, 2004 at 3:06 PM (PDT) Comment 4

We've tested wth exo3x with the iShades and they do not hold firmly to the iPod while inserted; they slide off easily.

Regarding other iSkin versus #### case opinions, I advise readers to treat comments on these topics with a grain of salt given that these reviews are heavily trafficked by resellers of the cases who have financial incentives to portray their own products and competing ones in a certain light.

I just recieved my black exo2flb case from #### and i am really liking it. It keeps the shape of the ipod and looks cool. I, perhaps luckily, haven't had any troubles with the wet screen stuff from the ishade. only problems are that around the edges of the clickwheel cover, it doesnt seem to sit against the wheel, and the thing collects dust and lint like mad. I tried powder but i guess i may have done it wrong.

I just got an ExoFlpFb and it's very well made.

It attracts dust like crazy, so does my iSkin.

"elements of the eXoflps are now looking comparatively plain, as well. Lacking textured grips or other design elements"

I am very happy that it doesn't ad it's own design. I just wanted something to cover my iPod and the exoflpfb looks very good doing it.

\"#### cloned Speck's flip-open bottom, but the eXoflp's rubber flap isn't cut or smoothed off as professionally as Speck's."

My ExoFlpFb has a very smooth level edge. I'm not sure if I'm jus lucky but I'm very happy with the product and it's worth the price.

I am looking at getting a exoflp case and I am wondering if i should get a fb model or stick with the metal stubbed one.

To provide additional detail on the customer service issues, please remember that these people are NOT native English speakers.

I've had great luck and quick response from them on two issues I had. I took care to use simple English to explain the problem. If you use slang, YELL, or go into too much detail it may slow your response down.

i just ordered mine on their website. how long do you think it will ake to deliver? thanks!

My experience with an iskin was similar to eben's: The plastic disk that is part of the belt clip assembly stuck to the back of my ipod. I had to pry it off. It did not really leave any residue per se, but it was a PITA. No noticable blemishes either.

I just got my exoflp 4G case from It took them a couple of days to ship, then it took about 5 days to make the trip from China. I was able to purchase different colors for each part - case/clip/ and iShade - local resellers were selling packages with all the same color. The flap cutout had nothing visually wrong with it - it was smooth, no imperfections, so whatever problems with the demo iPod lounge found seem to be fixed.

only things wrong with it is it gets lint dust and hair all over it and it doesnt protect the screen..

does the ipod get overly hot when it has a case on would it do any damage to the ipod?

Posted by Rowe on December 26, 2004 at 9:24 PM (PDT) Comment 15

I recently purchased a case on ####'s website, and received my redeipt via paypal. When i clicked on the details it said that there was no shipping address. Had this happened to anyone else? I have tried e-mailing them, but something with yahoo won't let me.

Posted by trophyman582 on December 30, 2004 at 2:34 PM (PDT) Comment 16

It's been over 20 days since i ordered my case, and i've contacted them and they said it could be because of christmas. has anyone else had shipping/delivery problems this month? i'm just so frsutrated.

Posted by missbadshaw on December 31, 2004 at 3:19 AM (PDT) Comment 17

With regard to missbadshaw's comment, I had a frustrating time with my order too. It took 17 days for my exoflpfb 4G case to arrive. When it did, it was stuffed in a brown packing envelope with a screen capture of my order printed out (I supposed that's my "receipt"). The iShade that shipped with it was scratched and dinged up so it does not fit well in the exoflpfb case anymore.

I'm also experiencing the "wet look" with the iShade, but that's the least of my concern.

In retrospect, I should have bought the iSkin instead. Shipping within Canada would definately put the iSkin in my hand in less than 17 days, and the shades they offer looks and fits ten times better.

Overall, ####'s product is so-so, and the execution of their business is simply unprofessional.

Do you think that if you got an adhesive screen protector(one of these really thin ones) and place it on the bottom of the iShade, not on the iPod screen itself, it would eliminate the "wet" look? Somebody try it and let me know.

Where can you buy the cases online?

Posted by packerbacker on January 23, 2005 at 2:49 PM (PDT) Comment 20

I ordered mine on Dec. 24, 2004 and it was shipped on Dec 28, 2004 to CA. I have not received mine yet. Be awre that it might take a really long time to receive this product. is willing to give me a credit, bur I decided to wait till Jan. 31, 2005.

Posted by kwatch on January 23, 2005 at 6:52 PM (PDT) Comment 21

I just received mine today. It took exactly 30 days.

Posted by kwatch on January 24, 2005 at 5:12 PM (PDT) Comment 22

I just bought an eXo3 4G off ebay ($11). The service was fast, and I got mine in less than a week.

Honestly, I can't really understand why it would merit a C+, while I've seen other ipod accessories that I wouldn't touch with a 10' stick get better grades.

In any case, it perfectly fulfills my objective: a very small thin case that is nearly transparent in size. It doesn't make my ipod feel any bigger, just grippier so I don't feel like my ipod is going to slip out of my hands. Now I can toss my ipod in my pockets (w/ minimal bulge) along with my keys and not worry about scratching it.

Regarding screen protection, it's not problematic for me because since day 1, I've always had a PDA screen film on my ipod, cut to size and it works fine.

are these better than iskin or speck skintight?

Posted by punkrockavocado on February 6, 2005 at 3:28 PM (PDT) Comment 24

#### has one of the worst websites I've ever seen, maybe because theyre a China based company. iSkin's is much easier to navigate. So I think I'm going with the iSkin because I don't see much difference in the products and I don't care about a belt clip.
