why can't it charge the ipod? Thats weird.

Draining the airplane's battery is maybe not a good idea. Charging takes a lot more electricity than playing. A LOT more.

Most airlines throw a fit if you charge things from their power outlets. I have been asked repeatedly to remove the battery from my iBook while operating from the plane's power outlet. I'm not sure why they do this, but I'm guessing this is the reason for Apple's "advice" to BTI.

nah, I don't think so because their battery packs also can't charge, same goes with belkins one. I think its just a problem with having a stable power supply where the lack of could damage charging related componants in an ipod
