Got the Podwave from Macconnection ($29.88 - $29.88 rebate) today and it is version 1 . I would not pay $40 for version 2 based on what I received.

I agree with Slappyman--I also got the free-after-rebate-except-for-shipping deal. I fired them up, listened for a couple of minutes, then said to my wife, "I think if I'd paid $40 for this, I'd be pretty pissed. But for 8 bucks, they're a steal."

Mine seem to work fine. I do think the sound is a little tinny, but not unduly so given the very small size. At the bargain price, I'm pleased to have them for situations (such as yard work) where headphones can be in the way.

I just got mine last night from Maconnection. This is such a disappointment. I had to crank the volume on my iPod up to the max just to be able to hear anything across the room. Holding my iPod in my hand, you can barely hear it at 90% volume. I even put in a different battery than the one that came with it hoping that the battery was dead. No such luck. Even though it is F.O.R., I'm questioning whether it is even worth the $8.24 of shipping. The worst part is there is no support area for this on the Macally website to even find out if there is some solution.

I just got the FAR Podwave from MacConnection.com and i swear its a V2. its more then an inch high off the top of the ipod (alittle less then an inch and a quarter) and it has a little grove for the hold button on it (still swivles around but dosen't bump into the hold button) anyone else think they got a V2? To be honest this thing will work great for use at work where i can't turn anything up loud anyway. I'm compleatly surpirsed and happy with my $8 purchase! thank guys for the heads up!

BigBot, where did you find the Podwave mentioned on the site? The sku for Podwave (which they sent me version 1) was 5426852 but that was never to be found on the site. Thanks

kalahari:

it took me forever to find it as well. you have to go into rebates and then put in the sku. here is the page: http://www.macconnection.com/Rebate/RebateDetail?sku=5426852#Rebate1

you can't add it to your cart online so i called up and ordered. i got two of them and shipping via usps was $5.

I got a free PodWave v2 from MacConnection. I have been playing the PodWave v2 for 2 days now and am impressed with its performance for its small size. None of the problems others noted (perhaps those were v1 problems?)
Sound is clear and adequately loud. Loudless is also a function of how hot the source material is. No background hiss. Sometimes I find myself turning it down! Its perfect on your desk at the office where you can't play it load anyway. It does sound better if its on a flat surface for bass/and mid-range reenforcement (not that it has a lot of bass).
One feature I would like to in a future product would be the ability to detach the speakers to place them further apart on my desktop.

Overall a very clever product!

Received my PodWave from MacConnection yesterday. Very pleased with product. Version 2.
Placed at the base of my neck the sound is very clear and loud. I hope to devise some type of collar to hold the iPod Shuffle and PodWave to wear while jogging. Product seem to be well made.

Let it mount to the dock connector and provide a volume slider. Possibly include a wire stand that folds onto the speakers, so your iPod stands up on top of these speakers.

Does anyone know if the PodWave will fit on top of an iPod which has an iSkin on it?

I'd like to get one of these, but if it won't work with my iSkin, I'm not sure.

I recently purchased this item and am very pleased with it. Mine is the second version and have had no problems with it. The battery life is great. I'm getting up to 28 hours of use out of one battery. Distortion can be heard around 90 - 95% volume, but I find I don't need it higher than 65-75% when sitting at my desk at work.

Will definitely keep an eye on Macally products in the future.

Another note on above comment. When first trying the speakers out, they did not sound the greatest. As with any speaker, they need to be broken in. After about 15 - 20 hours of playback the speakers sounded real good. Don't expect alot of bass from these casue you won't get it.

Has anyone used this with 5g iPod Video? If so, how comforatable is it to use considering the placement of the headphone jack? Also, has anyone come across a similar product that utilizes the dock connection rather than the headphone? thnx!
