"[The Wheel Protector is] so good that it should be a standard feature on all of Vaja's iPod cases."
"We also like the fact that Vaja cases don't force us to pay for features we don't want or need "

Jeremy your former comment doesn't fully make sense in light of the (better) latter one ... I personally will never want wheel protection; I like touching the iPod directly where it's meant to be touched, even when I have a protective case on. Several of your reviews haven't been fully sensitive to the fact that many iPod users might feel as I do -- so since manufacturers likely read what you write, please stop demanding that they make wheel protectors standard! Thank you =)

A very nice looking case. How much thicker does this make the iPod?

Posted by NeoteriX on March 1, 2005 at 10:37 PM (PDT) Comment 2

Point taken, though the comments are intended to be internally consistent: the wheel protection is so useful, and well-implemented, that people do need it. Vaja's is really the best we've seen - better than both Power Support's and iSkin's separate full-wheel offerings.

I guess I'd put the question to you this way: if you could protect your iPod's Wheel without any negative impact on its usability, would you? If the answer's yes, then we don't really disagree on this.

Neoterix: 4-6mm on each side save the bottom, give or take. The bottom has a bit more than that.

I think the comments are supposed to be reserved for the product at hand, instead critisizing reviews... and my comment/question is on topic:

I have had my eye on these cases ever since they came out. However, I just don't want to take it out of the case each time I want to use them with my inMotion3/Logic3 stereo systems, I was wondering, if anyone knew, If I used the adapter built for the 60gig iPod Photo instead of the proper one (in my case, the 40gig adapter) would it fit? I just have a feeling that taking the pod out of the case multiple times each day will start to leave marks. Does anyone have ideas ?

PS, I know that the inMotion3 does not have an adapter for the 60gig iPod Photo, but the Logic3 does.

I'm with nyorker, I'd prefer to have an option to purchase without the Wheel Protector.

And while we're on the subject, I'd pay extra if they removed their logo off the front. I much prefer the orginal design without it, much cleaner look.

Has it been released? I can't find it on the Vaja website...

I doubt it will fit, as any case adds to the "width" dimension of the iPod making it wider than any of the iPod's in their naked state.

in your opinion, how does this product stack-up against the speck tough skin? I value the wheel protector feature and was wondering how this stacks up against the new speck product because I need to buy one and was wondering which one to buy. I have the 40gb device

Go to the Vaja site and click on the box that states "Black i-volution shipping immediatly" It appears that the $59.00 price is for Black only.

i have had one of these for several months now and it's great. it's really sturdy and really protects the ipod and looks great doing it.

i would add though that many dock connectors won't fit. i can use the sik in-line but not monster's car charger/audio out, for example.

4-6mm on each side??? damn thats gonna make the ipod really bulky! i agree i looks really good...but the thickness!! i have been waiting for a leather case like this for quite some time now...but this is too bulky. if its at least slimmer ill buy one right away. btw i just checked the vaja site and it appears that the black one reviewed here is already sold out. imagine the impact pf ipodlounge on manufacturer! put an 'A' review of a product one afternoon its sold out!

to christomapher : i dont think it will EVER fit into the iM3 or logic3 docks. it is waaayyy too thick for that, plus the side's width is kinda fixed no matter whick model is it
p/s i got an iM3 and it doesnt even have an ipod photo adapter.

I like the wheel protector! If only my Vaja case came with one. I highly recommend this case to anyone, unless you use the dock frequently. The case does add some width and thickness to the iPod but not to the point that it's monstrous. And the process of removing your iPod from this case is like birthing a cow.

I have some question though: is the wheel protector transparent? How thick or thin is it? And is it contoured to accommodate the button in the middle or does it just sit on top of the wheel?

this is my first post ever, ive been reading the site for months (probably my fav site on the net, i visit it 10 times a day) now and I just bought an ipod. I also got the DLO action jacket, but it has been leaving scratches below my clickwheel (much like the scratches on the Marware sports/convertable case), so I've been eyeing up the Vaja daily... can't decide tho, because it is so expensive. I recently came across the ipodkitz leather case which is basically a vaja ivolution rip off, which is offered at a much cheaper price (40.00us) and looks like it could be pretty close in quality. you guys should review this for those less fortunate!

brian jay kay you should take a look at this review, which compares the ipodkitz with the vaja.

I just bought one of these about a week ago and am waiting the 23 days it requires to get one. I got the light Grey color with NO CLICKWHEEL COVER and no stupid belt clip thingie. I am going to stop using my dock connector but will have to remove the iPod from its cover in order to use the iPod in my ProClip carrier in my car. This case looks GORGEOUS and I can't wait to get it. It will be nice when transporting it from the car to wherever it is I'm going in to (have heard too many storeis about people seeing SiK adapters and such in cars and people breaking in looking for the iPod) but I'm still FLABBERGASTED how everyone is SO FREAKED about scratching the backs of these things. Lighten up people, when it REALLY comes down to it, the iPod (minus the shuffle) is the LEAST ATTRACTIVE product that Apple makes. It's merely a cover for a HD. I'm still not convinced this thing is all it's cracked up to be. IT'S JUST A HARD DRIVE. Can't wait to see where these lead to and to the time a few years down the line where we're all talking about, "Remember that clunky iPod we used to carry around?" Cheers.

It looks like the screen cover is one of those god-awful ones that sticks 2 the screen giving it that 'wet' look... can U clarify if this is the case?

Posted by Disciple on March 3, 2005 at 4:27 PM (PDT) Comment 17

i am so getting one

Posted by robot 12-34 on March 3, 2005 at 9:38 PM (PDT) Comment 18

Does one need to remove the case when charging the battery? It seems like it would get hot.

You can custom build your own color and have it shipped in 30 days -- it's available now. The link is a bit hidden. After clicking on MP3 players under "products", click on iPod 4G next to where you see the "rasta" cover. You will see the link to customize a case.

It would be nice if they gave you a finished image of your product (color, personalization or embossing, etc) before you clicked "buy". And oh yes, I too am so getting one.

Hi, I own iPod Photo 30GB. Do you reckon it can into Vaja 20gb? I saw info at that their eVo2 20gb can be fitted on 30gb photos. Any suggestions guys? Thanks.

Does anyone have the iVolution with the wheel protector? I'm contemplating whether or not to add the wheel protector.

With the protector, do you have FULL access to the controls and is it still touch sensitive?

Posted by CollinM on March 12, 2005 at 4:27 PM (PDT) Comment 21

Looking to find out if I would have to remove my 20GB 4G from this case in order to use it:
1. with the SendStation PocketDock w/ Line out (or equivalent)
2. with the connectors from either the new Alpine or Pioneer car interface units
3. with the Apple desktop dock.

Any know for sure on any of these?

Posted by MrRhino on March 17, 2005 at 7:16 AM (PDT) Comment 22

Is the $59 price still available on the vaja website? I can't find the "Black i-volution shipping immediatly" box anywhere!!

I was going to get the black case anyways, so it would be nice if I could save a few bucks and have it ship right away. Thanks.

Posted by Mutombo on March 17, 2005 at 1:38 PM (PDT) Comment 23

In response to my own question...I spoke with someone at Vaja and they are no longer offering the $59 "in stock" model. So if you want one of these cases, you're gonna have to wait (and pay) for it.

Posted by Mutombo on March 18, 2005 at 6:33 AM (PDT) Comment 24

Oh my, i just visited the website and I am GOING to get one of these... they're gorgeous!!! And they fit the ipod to a "T" I'm so amazed at the sleekness!!! The craftsmanship alone sold me!!! Just gotta save my beans, but looks like it is well worth the money!!! My only problem now, is deciding what kind and color to get...
