Anyone know if this unit available now? As of 5-24-05, the photo version does not appear to be on the Otterbox site, as the photos of the review unit and their photos do not match. This review photo DOES match the pics for the "30/40/60 GB Click Wheel" Ipod, but not the Ipod Photo. Maybe I missed it? Hope it's not vaporware, as it appears a great product.

The 30/40/60 box is the one I use with my iPod photo 30 gig. (As the review states, the case comes with spacer pads to adjust the fit. On the Otter site you'll note the 30 gig box has an iPod photo installed by its color screen.) I bought the case from their site in the first part of May.

As for the review, I wouldn't have dinged the case for the sticky pads. I would have taken more issue with the total weight of the unit with an iPod in the case. While not as bulky as a CD walkman, it's still pretty dang heavy. Then again, I have already bashed and soaked the case bad enough to have destroyed an unprotected iPod. Still, my iPod looks and acts like it did when I first took it out of its box. That makes me give the case an A++!

I recently recieved on as a gift and noticed info on the package that is very different from the claims here. It states on the package that the otterbox is water proof at 1 meter... not ten feet. This is odd since lap swim is in pools that are often up to 10 feet at the deep end. Can you guys give any info?

I found this line confusing...
"none of the competing cases is rated to a 100-foot depth, like OtterBox’s and H2O Audio’s non-iPod products"
On the Otterbox site this appears to be a statement for the traditional otterbox and not any other (ipods cases are under a different link).

Does a 60 gig rattle around in this case? I like the idea of a hard case, but don't want my iPod getting scratched by movement within the case.

I've had the newer oPod case for a couple of months now, and it's been great. I can't say I've ever actually gotten it wetter than, say, having a bit of rain fall on it, but I don't doubt its ability to keep my investment dry. As far as regular protection goes, it's been great: I've dropped my iPod several times and the sucker protected it like a vault. My only complaint about the oPod is that, at least on my version, I have to pull the headphone jack out just a little bit in order to get sound out of both headphones. It's bothersome, but I'm used to it, an I don't think it's a common flaw. It's expensive, sure, but if you're a janitor (like me) or you use your iPod in places where it might get gunked up, it's completely worth the money.

Just an update to my post above. My Otterboxed iPod went for a 10 foot flight across my living room last night -- bouncing several times across the hardwood floor and slamming into the wooden side of a chair. Since I still have a working iPod (without a scratch, I should add), the Otterbox case just paid for itself.

I have finally decided to break down and get an ipod and I want the otterbox case.

It seems that the Ipod 20GB (non-photo) has been discontinued and only the 20GB photo version is available now. (Unless I get it offline)

Will the 20GB photo version work with the 20GB otterbox? Those foam inserts worry me. I want it to be a perfect fit.

I meant to say 'unless I get it off of the internet.'

Also I have been looking at tech specs and it looks like I will have to get the non-photo one, if I can find it.

The Ipod 20GB photo (direct from Apple):
4.1 x 2.4 x 0.63

The Ipod 20GB 4G (
4.1 x 2.4 x 0.57

I got this bad boy on ebay for about $29. Seems great to me. I was trying to figure out if it would be too bulky for running and I have decided it is. But it's a must have for any situation where you're worried about it getting wet, dirt in it, sand, etc. So far, I'm diggin it. smile

I am interested in purchasing this product but am concerned about the boast of the case being waterproof to 1 meter/3 feet and not the original 10 feet as mentioned in the above article.

Has anyone had any problems with the case in water greater than a depth of 3 feet?
