As always, a very thorough review, but one thing bugs me a bit:

"Additionally, over-the-ear phones like these don’t provide significant isolation from outside noise, and consequently require you to increase the volume to drown out your environment - something that’s not especially good for your ears."

You've made this point in a number of reviews, and while what you say is true, I must point out that there are many situations when not being isolated from all environmental noise is a GOOD thing. Obviously this style is not good for an airplane or your living room. But if you're out jogging you want to be able to hear your environment (cars, etc.) for safety reasons. Since these are being marketed as "an athletic headphone option" I would argue that the lack of environmental isolation is not really a con.

I wouldn't expect this to change your recommendation or letter grade, but I think it's worth discussion.

I completely agree with you, Fangorn. I ride my bike listening to my ipod, and i purposefully choose headphones that let outside sound in while i ride, so i dont get smashed by a car.

+1 for taking it out of the list of cons.

The shape of these particular earpieces makes them especially non-conducive to efficient transfer of audio content from iPod into your ear. And there's more than one type of athletic application - some outdoors, some indoors.

from a woman's perspective, those aren't particuarly aesthetically pleasing. they look like they match the xbox, and strike me as headphones for a 15 year old boy. maybe it's the photo, maybe they'll look better in the alternate colors (that alien green is awful), but i couldn't help but point that out.
