I bought the TransPod for iPod Shuffle the first day I saw the press release on iLounge. I agree with the reviewer that there is an audible "hiss" with the device, and also that some vehicles' cigarette lighter oulet could be an install problem. However, I use it daily in my CR-V and love it--installation was not a problem.

It is not a product for audiophiles (who should get a head unit with a dedicated line-in), but it has sufficient quality for the rest of us who want to keep listening once we climb into the car.

One other note, at Best Buy, it currently retails for $69.99.

I have just purchased the DLO transpod for ipod shuffle, after first seeing it here in the wonderful ilounge. Even took the trouble of shipping all the way here to Sweden where selling (and maybe using) is illegal... maybe I am the first person to run an ipod-powered pirate-radio-station....

I should say at this point that I was very late coming to the whole ipod thing. I have been an MP3 user for a long time and I am really against the way Apple is trying to kill both the hardware and software competition. I also really dislike the itunes software and the itunes website.

Rant over - that said....

I was shopping for a new mp3 player for when I go training..... I tried hard not to, much to the sales man’s disdain, but in the end I walked out with a plain and simple ipod shuffle and arm band. The shuffle has given me a few problems, and it went back to the shop twice, but now I have a good one and have become very addicted to the little thing

I am the newest member in the "Church of ipod".

Never wanting to be away from my little shuffle, I hated the idea of driving my car and picking through the CD i carry with me... seemed like going back to black and white TV with only 3 channels and no remote control. painful.

The pain drove me to ilounge, ilounge educated me and sent me to DLO, DLO sent me a wonderful new Transpod.

The Transpod is black which makes perfect sense as so is my cars interior, the buttons easy to use, the freq range is broad, and the strength of the single strong. The unit is compact and sits nicely on my dash just to the side of the gear stick. The best method for using is to turn up the ipod to max and your car stereo to low-or-medium.

I play a range of music, right now it's some banging dance music (Crystal Methods), when the music is in full flow the quality is good enough to get me fired up. But when the music drops to a little break - with only some small sounds - you can hear the hiss of the radio freq. To me that is fine, actually it's better than fine. I expect to hear the hiss whilst the music was firing but to be honest it's not that different to 'home burnt' CDs.

Everything depends on the Stereo you have, the speakers you have, the mp3 you play on the ipod. I have a pretty good stereo, I play only good quality mp3 and we have good room on the FM dial.

My car is CD only, it has no line in and therefore I have two options, no ipod or ipod with FM transmitter. Reading the reviews and the risks about how bad a transmitter can be, I am really delighted to the transpod. It is an FM transmitter, so expect to hear FM quality music and not CD quality music. Don’t listen to classical music or jazz, just slamming urban music or rock and you will be a very-happy-shopper.

Well done DLO and thanks to ilounge for all the free info on a very well built website.

Car: Volvo S60 2005
ipod: shuffle
music: Crystal Methods (slamming dance floor)
freq: 88.4
City: Gothenburg, Sweden
test: 1hr drive (after picking up the device from UPS)

result: 5 out of 5 stars.
verdict: it’s hard to know what DLO could have done to improve this little device. It charges, it transmits, it’s easy to use, it looks nice and it fits perfectly in my car. It’s an FM transmitter so don’t expect CD quality music, but that doesn’t detract from the device. It’s a perfect FM transmitter.

Ok so i was totally sick of the xtrememac version. i was irritated with having to adjust my volume all the time, and getting sick of the hissing sound. so i exchanged it. this one tunes into 87.9 unlike the xtrememac version, which is awesome! i love it! and it was only 29.99 at target!

one more update...this thing is definitely fragile. i got a new car...and the cig lighter plug is right by the armrest...and yeah...lets just say the fm transmitter got hit...it fell to pieces...luckily i was able to re assemble it with no problems...i was definitely not a happy campter for 5 minutes....

sometimes i am noticing that durring playback, my ipod will just stop playing songs...all i have to do is press play again, and it corrects the problem. i really feel bad complaining since i only paid like 25
