I looked long and hard and these had the best sound for a portable in this price range.
Yes, the bass will vibrate some on certain songs although this can be somewhat effected by where you place the speakers.
I used the mm50 at a backyard BBQ and it really exceeded my expectations, the sound was clear and certainly loud enough, and a number of folks were impressed with it overall.

Has anyone had problems with this docking with their computer? I admit to not being very computer savy, but I have yet to figure out what I could possibly be doing wrong. It's fine with my ipod mini, but nothing with my computer. Help?!

Just got a set of these yesterday off eBay and am more than impressed thus far. Great sound *for the price* and easy set up. Also much smaller but more solid than expected. ***but*** wondering if anyone has found a skin/case/protector that works with the 30G vidoe that doesn't need to be removed. My skin is nice and condom tight, but I have to remove it to get the adapter to fit tightly enough to engage. Thanx!

Have any of you used this as a portable in a car? I'm tired of the hiss on Fm based connectors and not about to replace my whole system. I want one I can just stick on the floor or
on a seat.

Help !! My cousin and I both have this logitech player. HE has the 30G video I have the 60G video ipod. Both our ipods have crashed and we are unable to reset them. Has anyone experienced this. I'm certain this is related to the logitech player. The first symtom is the failure the remote to control the functions of the ipod then crash.

Get it while it's hot! Refurbished mm50s at CWO are going for an unbelievable $44.99!!!

I have already purchased a unit here in Toronto for twice the price in Canadian funds, so I envy those of you who live in America who won't have to pay extra taxes and duty to have it shipped. It's a real bargain for that price.

The quality really does sound great for portable speakers and the fact that it contained a rechargable lithium battery was a major selling point (I'm tired of replacing the batteries on my mm22).

The only real complaint I have is that my iPod doesn't seem to have enough juice to really push the mm50 to it's limits, even after setting the volume adjustment on each mp3 to 100% in iTunes. And videos seem even quieter. Yet the speakers are incredibly loud when playing music from my Powerbook.

One concern, however. My mm50 tends to turn off from time to time when watching a video on my 5G iPod. Is there another mm50 owner out there who is experiencing the same issue and can shed some light?

For all of you interested in 5 gen ipod compatibility with this speaker:

This unit has a peculiar trait - I returned my mm50 twice. Am now requesting full refund from Logitiech.

I have had identical experience with two completely different mm50 units, the mm50 will shutdown automatically. Putting ipod on "pause", and powering itself and the ipod down.

This is extremely annoying as the mm50 must be turned on and then the ipod must be "un-paused" before it will play. This occurred time and again when music hit low levels. I play a lot of classical music, the mm50 would repeatibly shut off at certain spots in the same pice of music.

I returned my original purchase unit to Logitech after extensive reassurance from customer service that this should NOT be happening. The replacement I received did exactly the same thing. I have returned the replacement unit for full refund.

I love the way they sound- however, the Alarm feature does not seem to work correctly on a 5th gen. ipod using these speakers.

After the ipod powers the speakers on for the alarm- the ipod switches to PAUSE so no music plays.

After experiencing this with my ipod and speakers - I went to the Apple store. an Apple associate also tested their mm50's with a 30 gb ipod and a Nano. The alarm wouldn't work on those either.

We had no problem getting it to work on the Bose and iHome systems.

"I called Logitech and they said the alarm is not supported on ipods" and that they had no plans to update the speakers to do so.

Too bad.

I've purchased the black model, but that one has a bad batterie whick doesn't hold the charge, so I've dealed with Logitech (who has a great support by the way) to have a new one, I've just received it, but I'VE A VERY BAD SURPRISED!!!!!

The dock connnector has disappear on the back of the speaker, it is not anymore possible to dock your Ipod if this one in connected to the speaker, a real same!!

So I've just contacted the support (in France), they told me this product has just received since few days a revision, GREAT ONE!!!!, this is part of the revision, no more dock connector!!!

It's really incredible and a VERY BAD NEWS, i suppose they have made that to decrease the manufacturing price of this product, I'm really disappointed now... :-(

I've been quite impressed with these speakers for playing my iPod but haven't worked out how to use them as speakers for my iMac: I've connected the iPod USB/docking cable to the iMac and the speakers but no sound: can anyone tell me what to do??

There IS a way to use alarm with mm50: you need to set 2 alarms, each 1 minute apart. The first one will turn on ipod/mm50 in paused mode and the second alarm will start playing. e.g. First one 6.59am and second one 7.00am.

The designers would have been smarter if they had made room in the case for the power adaptor and the IPod. You can't carry them in the case. The powere adaptor ALMOST fits in the IPod dock, but it doesn't. To me that is a stupid design overlook, because you have to carry the damn thing around, or you might lose it.

Is the adaptor good for holding the new Nano (aluminum)?

Will an "iskin"ed 5g 80gb ipod fit in the dock ok?

Got the mm50's from circuit city today, and i love 'em! Currently on sale at CC for $119US plus tax if you like to purchase in person. The remote range is unreal!! Plus the sound quality is way better than expected. If your thinking between these and the SI i-fusion, don't think anymore. The mm50's blow it away!

Probably not good speakers for classical music!!

I couldn't figure out why my mm50 kept turning off by itself. I finally found out that if it senses a low audio input, then they will shut off after about 2 minutes if it's on battery power. This could be good, I guess, but it's horrible for soft stuff. I can't even play half of my classical collection on these for more than two minutes at a time. Is there a way to turn this setting off? Hey, iLounge, where were you on this one? Why didn't you post something to warn us???!

Posted by mattbrew on June 21, 2007 at 8:24 AM (PDT) Comment 36

The level at which you encoded your music (possibly too low) has as much to do with that particular problem as anything. Try re-ripping your music using a different encoder or using Sound Check in both iTunes and the iPod to bring up the sound levels. That said, we can't post every conceivable detail about a product's performance under every possible condition. Reader comments like the ones above are here to fill in the gaps.

I have these speakers and they sound beatuiful. In fact i am listening to them right now! They work perfectly and I use them with my TV at times. The only problem i have with these speakers is that the remote doesn't work to well and you have to "aim" it at the little sensor on the right of the dock. Don't let that discourage you though--these are a great pair of speakers. The battery lasts quite long.

i would rate them
9 1/2

Tip: if you want to keep the mm50 from adjusting your iPods volume level, just press and hold down the two volume buttons on the speakerset for about 5 seconds. The power led should blink red or blue for a few seconds, depending on whether you just turned that feature on or off. Remember that you'll have no visual feedback when changing the volume setting on the speakers.

"Will an "iskin"ed 5g 80gb ipod fit in the dock ok?"

i dont think so.....only the naked iPod will fit in the dock.

{why doesn't someone come out with a dock connector extension?}

tinny - they have smile

I have the SendStation Pocketdock to use my iPod in my car and it is very well designed and works great. I can imagine this extender is likely the same smile
