From the review:
"the Dock Connector is covered with a flap of silicone"

and then:

"simply remove the dock adaptor from the dock [to use the iSkin with Apple's Universal Dock]"

Um, how exactly would it be dock still has that big flap covering the dock connecter? Would I have to cut off the flap?

Thanks for a very complete review Jerrod. One question; are the dark marks that can been seen under the screen on the pictures of the pink case due to the case touching the iPod? I don't like the look, and wonder if it looks different in person...

Can we have a close-up of the hold switch and such?

Posted by minty on December 16, 2005 at 9:59 AM (PDT) Comment 3

To use in Apple's Universal dock, simply fold back the flap to expose the dock connector.
The dark mark is caused by the silicone touching the black iPod 5G.
We'll see about posting a photo of the top of the case.

Recieved mine (pre-ordered) earlier this week and although I did not like it much day one it grows on you. Biggest issue is that it is barely compatitable with dock - it is easly knocked and comes out - this is no big issue because all cases cause docking problems baring the Speck Tight Skins - which by the way make the scroll wheel impossible to use in the dock and also make the lower part vunerable in the dock

So can you use the new iTrip with this case? That's all I really need to know, and if the answer is yes I'll be buying one shortly.

Great review! I can't wait to try mine out. I ordered one last week, but they are still back-ordered...

yeah the cases would be great....if iskin got off their lazy @$$ and sent them to people to ordered them.

Are these as dust prone as previous iSkin and other silicone cases?

Posted by webHead on December 17, 2005 at 9:39 PM (PDT) Comment 9

Can you use this with itrip?

Posted by da Vinci on December 18, 2005 at 10:45 PM (PDT) Comment 10

It sounds like a great case but I think a follow up review should be done to see if it is compatible with popular dock-connecting accessories such as iTrip and such. Also, a photo of it used in the Apple Universal Dock should be included being it was mentioned prominately in the review.

I previously owned an iskin mini, and would also like to know if this version will atract as much lint?

I just received my eVo3 last night and have been using it all day. It was dirt easy to remove the belt clip and backing (I'll never use my 5G on my belt). It was dirt easy to cleanly install the iPod in the case. No dust problems on the clear faceplate.

The case completely protects my iPod, keeps it from sliding around on my desk even with a power cable attached, and the faceplate is optically clear and does not distort nor obsure the video in any way. The port cover is a nice feature and does not hinder connecting a cable, although I can see how dock users won't like this. (I never use docks.)

All in all I'm thrilled with the product. I don't have to baby my 5G any more, and at last I can rid myself forever of those stupid Martinsheilds.

I just got my evo3 today and I am very impressed. The thing that mainly impresses me is the great protection that the evo3 offers for my ipod. It is a little tough to install because i am always worried that the V.I.S.O.R. will scratch by screen, but it's not that large of a problem. The main thing that annoys me about the case is the little flap by the docking port. Since im always using a dock, it's annoying to have that flap constantly in the way. But what i did was cut it off, and that was fine, and there hasnt been any negative effect as a result of this. Something to note is that the black version of the case isn't see-thru at all, it is just a completely solid black color.

Received my Atomic green case yesterday - impressive. Almost fluorescent. As noted in the review, I would not give too many marks for the belt clip- which I have removed.

I have owned previous versions of the iSkin eVo products and have always been happy. I ordered a new eVo3 for my new iPod G5 on the first day of availability. When I ordered it online direct from iSkin, the order form clearly mentioned my credit card would be charged immediately. No big deal other than that most reputable retailers charge your card when the item is shipped to you, not when it's ordered. Less than five minutes after ordering I received an e-mail saying the eVo3 is on back order with no estimated ship date. I wonder why their limited availability wasn't mentioned at the time of the order. I still haven't received the item and they will not refund the money. I will have to go through my bank and stop the charge. I was expected to be treated better, but their insistence on charging the card immediately should have tipped me off that they were up to something.

I've had my evo3 for two days, and I love it... except for one thing: the hold switch protector. Did the reviewers have a magic evo3? It's useless to me as I cannot get it to slide the hold switch at all. For two days I've tried...nada. Instead, I'm forced to dig my fingernail into the silicone to push the actual hold switch, causing little cuts in the rubber. Now I have to take an Xacto blade and cut the thing out (which pains me to do on a brand-new $35 case). Other than that, everything is peachy.

I'm still waiting for my case to be shipped. I'm confident in saying that iSkin must have the worst shipping notification system in existence. My order was "In queue for shipping" for a week, then it's been "Ready to ship" for the past 3 days. Obviously the term "Ready to ship" is misleading (I live close enough to their headquarters that I could have picked it up by now). All this, and I'm still awaiting a response from customer service about whether I should expect the Evo3 for Christmas (its suppose to be a gift). Lesson learned kids - don't order something as a gift if it only starts to ship on Dec. 12.

Not only did my eVo 3 arrive sloppily made (extra silicone material around the edges) but the Click Wheel icons are misaligned too (off to the right.) iSkin's website currently states that: "RMA received after December 09, 2005 will NOT be processed until Feb 17, 2006." On top of that they force you to pay return shipping regardless of whether or not it is a manuf. defect on their part (which would then bring the total cost of an eVo 3 case to $50.) This is my first and probably last purchase from iSkin (I say probably because it is still a nicely designed case.)

I love this case! I just recieved the black one today and I must say, I feel like my investment is very well protected! Worth the 35 bucks to protect 400. I had the same shipping problems as everyone else but I think it was worth the wait!
This is my first iSkin case as I didn't have any protection for my 3G (and it shows, I am surprised how durable the pod is after what it has been thru).

Update: My order went from "Ready to Ship" to "Out of Stock". So much for the Christmas present (and any future business with iSkin).

Just a caveat to all...

Posted by spiffy jim on December 21, 2005 at 4:20 PM (PDT) Comment 21

I ordered my iSkin on December 11th and got it in yesterday December 20th- there were no shipping problems and it was actually pretty speedy. I got the black one but I have yet to open it since its a Christmas present.

Posted by thelastsession on December 21, 2005 at 5:22 PM (PDT) Comment 22

yeah, mine has done the exact same thing as spiffy jim's. i ordered 2, both with headphones. and one was my mom's christmas present. and i ordered them the day it came out. ughhh. and the worst part is that i actually do need the headphones, now that the apple ones that came with my ipod are messed up (the left earbud doesn't work). and they didn't even email me about any of this. aaaaaaaaaargh.

I was having the same problem with the "out of stock" business but I had a chat with customer service concerning the order. I was cordial, but expressed my concern over the evo3 being a gift, etc, etc. I was promised it would be resolved, and sure enough I checked just now and apparently they overnighted the thing to me. Nice.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I pre-ordered around noon on Dec. 8th, the launch day, so I think I had a right to be upset, given that other people were getting theirs even though they ordered long after me.
