WARNING!!!

I just bought one of these from the local CompUSA. It had the old reciever (with all of the buttons) and the new transmitter (without the extra tab).

After charging the transmitter, I hooked it up to my 4G 40gb iPod and the stereo system in my bedroom (an older Onkyo THX HT setup).

The sound quality was REALLY bad! The bass was so heavy, that I had to turn the volume way down on the iPod and way up on the stereo to reduce the vibration of the windows! Just to verify that the problem was with the Logitech BT system, I used a direct connection between the iPod and stereo to double-check the sound quality.

I don't know if this is a problem with a particular production run of this product (hence the details in the first paragraph) or not, but I do know that this one is going back to the store tomorrow.

FYI Amazon just lowered the price on this item to only $42 after shipping!! NOW it makes sense to deal some of the deffects of this product.

The review is spot on in terms of the physical shortcomings (the transmitter spinning around when used with smaller iPods). I'll also add that it is confusing that Logitech would release the product with 2 versions of base units. Again, as noted by the reviewer, the controls do nothing unless you use it with another line of Logitech products.

What I wanted to voice is that the product is very nice for what it does. A lot of others have you dock your iPod near your speakers and use some sort of proprietary remote. What's great about this product is whether it was an iPod or other music source, that device is with you. You're not given ANOTHER remote. With an iPod that means your playlists, your songs, all within view and control. With some modest searching, you can find this product for 1/3 of the retail price. At that price, you can hook all the stereos in your house, from bedroom to basement, up with receiver units, carry your ipod in your pocket and enjoy your music earphone-less.

Lastly, if the battery in the transmitter needs replacing, there's no battery compartment. A set of jeweler's screwdrivers should allow you to change it though.
