The green is ugly? Well, yes, I must agree with that but, I think that is why I like the green. It does have that questionable taste of the 1950's. Definitely not for everyone!
The wide open Ipod dock does bother me a little bit.
In spite of its alluring kitschy design, I am disappointed to see yet another simple all-in-one speaker system with no integrated radio(no clock or other gadgets, just a radio). That would have made a very nice little package for my bedroom or office.
I am still curious about the quality of sound though.

This is, in my opinion, a really cool speaker system, but I think that it takes a certain audience to really appreciate the irony of a kitschy, funky stereo designed for a somewhat mainstream mp3 player. But feel free to disagree.

I agree with Punkrockavocado, this is a really cool speaker system, in my opinion as well. If I were to buy it, I would most definitely buy the green.
Now that the review is in, I am not suprised, but still a little disappointed that the sound quality wasn't all that great. That combined with the lack of a radio will keep me from actually purchasing this unit.
The lack of a remote control is no problem for my personal use. It is a small unit reminiscent of those bedside units from the fifties. A remote seems unnecessary on such a small device that will probably be close at hand anyway. My Klipsch Ifi has a remote(when it works) and for that size of a system iit is nice.
I wonder about this trend of expecting a remote on every unit that comes along, is it really needed on some of these? I would like to hear other's thoughtful opinions on this.....

I judst got my black one delivered yesterday for my office, and I have to say I'm really impressed with the sound. I will admit the bass can be a bit thumpy at times, but a change of the eq settings can help that. But i played everything from Marilyn Manson to Coldplay and they sounded really rich. Plus is looks great...i had people commenting on it all day as they walked , and its loud as hell....i cranked it up and couldnt even get past half way.... Hope this helps someone considering buying it..I've mulled over a new system for weeks. I think it sounds better then the $250+ systems out there. Plus I found it for $118 online. I highly recommend it. Great for an office, bedroom, kitchen..wherever...

Got a SpeckTone retro from ebay for a nice price and am quite happy with it except I notice that mine is one with the reversed channels. For anyone who wants to check, I suggest Jimi Hendrix, sons like "The Wind Cries Mary" have marked stereo separation. Not sure how much this will bug me and have contacted Speck to see whether they will exchange this for one with proper channels. Will keep you posted!
