wait, headphones aren't included anymore?!?!
not including a power brick is one thing, but headphones?! next you'll have to buy the USB cord seperately. not that i don't have enough sets of apple buds, and not that i use them to begin with, but still, that's a little ridiculous.

mdwsta4 - They DO include headphones...it is just saying Apple introduced 2 new sets you can buy. The nano includes the new standard set.

I hate to sound like a whiner, but it would be nice if the 8GB were available in all the colors plus black rather than being available only in black.

I understand that they're probably doing it to simplify inventory tracking and whatnot, but one reason I bought a first-generation 4GB white Nano is because I didn't like the black. Oh, well. Maybe the 3G Nano will offer more choices....

FedEx has never looked so good! New Nano 2G just arrived. It is beautiful! The packaging is wonderfully done. The registration process is seamless and embedded within iTunes7. The new headphones are very comfortable and sound a little fuller on account of the better fit.It is also nice to no longer fuss with the foam covers for good fit. Wonderful. 8Gigs in a tiny aluminun case that is great looking. There is so much joy and beauty wrapped up in a freshly opened iPod. The depressed center button is nice. Great fun. I will have to order the 80 gig soon, but my Nano is always on me so it needed to be replaced first.

to tsik: The 8G is only available in black.

I just got my 2G nano and I have to say I'm disappointed. The sound isn't nearly as good as my 1G. The new "been working on them 18 months" headphones suck, but earbuds suck anyway, can only make them so good. And it's not nearly as good looking as my black 1G nano. One more thing: Screen brighter? Who says? They looks exactly the same to me. Oh well. I was going to give the wife the old Nano when I got my new one, but she gets the new one instead. At least she's happy. wink

How do they *sound*? One thing I like about my 5G 30gb iPod, is that they SOUND so much better than my 3G. Would love to rock that 8gb with the black alum. look. But not if it sounds like crap. Any reports?

Vapor must be looking at his display in direct sunlight because the screen is apparently brighter and cleaner.

As for sound, doing a side by side with my Sennheiser Headphones, the new Nano sounds identical to the 5G. I am no audiophile, but it sounds the same to me. As for comparing to the old Nano, the first thing I noticed out of box was the increased power. The new nano's volume is also identical to the 5G, whereas the old nano is about 15% lower output at same volume setting. I am very happy!

lurchi, the headphones are not offset, they are the same uniform build as the old apple pack ins, just redone at the earbud.

tsik, the 8GB is only available in black!
2GB: only silver
4GB: silver, green, blue or pink (no black)
8GB: only black

No!!!!!!! NO NO NO NOOOO!!!!!!!!!! How could they do this? I do a tone of research, finaly decide to buy a white nano, wait a week for it to be delivered, and use it for a few months. Then they come out with a new, better model. Great.

I have a very hard time believing that there is really any significant sound difference between an older and newer Nano, if one uses the same headphones. Achieving reasonable transparency at the electronics level is very, very simple to do.

I have compared older 3G iPods to newer ones and found that the only audible difference that could occur was when driving a very low impedence load (e.g., 16 ohms or so). This was due to the coupling capacitor used in the output of the 3G. Even so, when driving higher impedence loads the difference is utterly negligible.

I look forward to replacing my older iPods soon, these look great.

I returned my 1st gen nano yesterday and ordered the shuffle instead. Nothing against the new nano, but I'm gonna use the extra cash for a Mac. I was disappointed that the 8 gigger wasn't available in all colors.

Hmmm... maybe there's something wrong with my 2G Nano? The sound quality is noticeably poorer than my 1G Nano. The sound is tinny and compressed sounding... nothing subtle... I noticed it immediently. Since I'm not reading about anybody else experiencing this I guess I got a bad one. Will call Apple tomorrow to see about a replacement. :(

might require burn in.. i know it sounds kinda crazy, but when i got my nano, it sounded tinny and flat as well, but after a while listening to it, the sound got significantly better. other people noticed this as well, so perhaps yours might need to be burned in for a while.. leave it playing overnight at slightly higher volume than you'd normally listen to, and have a listen again and see if it sounds any better.

OMG i bought an 8 gig nano today, and they said all the dimensions were the same... yeah except for the dock connector, which they happened to move about 2mm to the left so now it wont work in my fm transmitter in my car or my iHome with the old nano adaptors. Are any of the companies that made older iPod accessories going to make new adaptors so that the new ones work with their products?
