The new Samsung YP-K5 smartly has a built-in speaker, but unfortunately you can't detach it. That seems a much better solution than this.

I recently purchased this speaker from Kensington, with the intent of using it when I fish from my boat. What a great little system this turned out to be! For the price, $29.99, you can't beat it.

The Pro's: small size, light weight, ease of use, true advertised battery life, stores your Ipod inside the unit whether in use or not and decent sound from something this small and inexpensive.

Cons: the sound distorts when turned up to near maximum volume, no access to the Ipod when the unit is zipped shut, sound level comfortable for close-up listening only, not much bass response & uses AAA's and not a self-contained rechargable battery.

With all that said I heartily recommend this speaker for specific listening situations. I even used it in my campsite after fishing and it put out more than enough sound for me to be satisfied but not bother other campers. I can honestly say that the batteries lasted at least 10 hours, but that was only at 1/2 or less volume.

You just can't go wrong for the price. Just don't expect big, booming, bass responsive sound. But then again it's not made to serve that need. This is much more of an "intimate" speaker system and should be viewed that way.

I agree with Jeremy, this product is not exciting at all. My friend purchased this product which we immediately put into action on a camping trip only to be really disgusted by the trashy sound quality, the lack of power (we were lucky to get 8 hours from it) and the neverending opening and closing of it to change the tracks on the iPod.

The only good thing about this product is the price so when we disposed of it on the way home it didn't hurt as much. smile Lesson - buy some quality.
