XtremeMac Tango 2.1 Digital Audio Speaker System | iLounge

I like the clean lines and it sounds like it might be an interesting unit. I look forward to the review.

I see the resemblance to the Apple IPOD Hi-Fi.. Except for one small fact...

I can take the Hi-Fi with me as its portable, one of its biggest strengths...

So I don’t think a comparison is really valid in this case.

attracted by its beautiful design, excellent kraftmanship and reasonable price, I bought one yesterday. Well, the bass low-end sounded the way described in the review, too bloated and covers the mid-range. Adjusting the bass control die not bring the desired result. My home HiFi ystem (of the hig-end class) served as a reference. I was decided to return it, since listening was really unpleasant. Finally, I found a very simple and efficient solution. I knew that the bass speaker needs more damping, either electrically by means of feedback or acustically. Since I did not want to open the speaker and modify the circuit (which I technically could), I took the latter option and pressed a thick "sausage" of loudspeaker damping -wool- material in the bass-reflex tube and immediatly got a big improvement. I kept varying the length of the damping material, comparing the sound to my Home HiFi system until I found that a length of approx. 10 cm tunes the Tango very close to my reference system. Now, I can happily listen without fatigue from the rumble bass. May be Xtrememac is willing to reconsider the bass-reflex concept. While it is known to extend the low-end, it is well known to make the bass "softer".
I am not yet quite sure whether I will keep the unit or return it and settle for using a more complicated set-up based on one of my tube amplifiers.
