in response to dudet depends how much music you have and listen to. Definatly a second generation IPOD the size is up to you the 10 is cheap and big if you dont have alot of music.... I have the 30 and I use it for files and other stuff as well as my 15 gigs of music... so it depends how much you can spend and how deep you will get into using it. But definatly second generation because they will in the futer have recording capabilities

Howdy!
Thinking about getting the new ipod 15G but I was wondering how well does it perform in the gym? Is the skip protection adequate?
Thnx

My 15GB took two weeks to arrive from Apple. Now that I have it I realise I now need an iPod Dock Connector to USB 2.0 + FireWire cable from apple (another £20). Ok fine but apple tell me there's a 6 week wait for these as they can't cater for the demand at present !!? aaaah the frustration! Will be 2 months before I can even use the thing! Did anyone else have this prob? I work around 30 brand new PCs and not one of them is user friendly with the Ipod.
Definitely not PC friendly for the 'average' PC user! Definitely do your research before you buy or you'll end up as frustrated as me!

but it'll be worth it in the end!

I am consideering buying the ipod using it generally for jogging. I'd appreciate feedback about the ipod for this use (is it to heavy to run with, can you get a useable belt clip for it, do the controls allow you to skip songs easily?

I use the new 30G on the treadmill & track for 5-6 miles daily. Works fine, but occasionally, a tune will shut down and I have to stop and start the machine again. That never happened with my 20G unit. I used the Sony Fontopia ear plugs and hated the ergonomics. I just found Macally Retractable earphones which are much better, yet less isolating than the Sony units. I don't jog, but for fast walking, I really like the Incase for the iPod.

G'Day!
I was just wondering if you could download songs directly onto the ipod. For example at university (where the connection is infinitley faster) I would like to be able download songs, however the allocated amount hard drive space everyone gets isn't very much so is it possible to copy/transfer the music onto the ipod without needing to install musicmatch or any software? Basically can the ipod be used as a portable drive without drivers for computers other than the home one?

Does the system still freeze often with the thirty GB version?

Bones-
You cannot copy songs directly to the iPod, some form of software, ie. iTunes, MM or whatever your pleaseure is required to load songs on an iPod and play them.
I too have the audible popping sound. I hope this can be fixed by a firmware upgrade! I also have the white "backlight" that others are talking about.
As this is my first iPod (15GB), I love it. My girlfriend has a Rio, which I like the display/backlight a lot more than iPod. Apple needs to fix the popping sound, though.
I bought the iPod because I have a Mac--and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Steve -
Thanks for the reply!
You say that songs can't be copeid to the ipod, but what about uploading songs from the ipod to the computer? Does that still require any software?
Anyway, going to an exhibition next week to see the ipod. So that will probably decide it for me!!
Cheers

Bones-
I can only speak from Mac experience. When I connect my iPod to my system it becomes a mounted device. I can then open the iPod (icon on desktop) just like a drive or disk image. When I do so I do not see any music files, just contacts and other files I might store there.
The owners manual says you need iTunes (Mac) or Musicmatch or other software (Windows) to be able to download MP3, MP4 etc., to the iPod in order to listen to music. I have never uploaded songs to the iPod so I can't help you there.
Hope that clears things up a bit!

I've had experience with the Griffin iTrip using a 1st gen. 5 GB iPod. Its sound quality is very good, and it works very well as long as you don't tune it to frequency near a very "strong" station. I don't know how well it works with newer iPods, but it works ok with mine. it takes a little while to get the hang of how it works, but everything is very easy to master. has ne1 else used it?

Melissa-
From a Mac point of view, you import cd's into iTunes which become part of the library. These imported songs from the library are copied (downloaded) to the iPod. I assume this is the same procedure for a Windows user.

Howdy!
Just been looking at some of the accessories available for the new ipod and came across the itrip and ifm. Now I know the itrip is meant for the older versions but does it equip the ipod with a radio as well as transmitting? Acnd conversly, does the ifm transmit as well as receive signals?
Cheers!
