Is it possible to output the Now Playing screen for music to a TV with Universal Dock connected via AV cable?

If you take the new dock apart you find that it contains a WM8758 codec, the same chip used in 5G and nano iPods. This leads me to suppose that the dock is actually doing d/a conversion as that is how they implement volume control. I guess this means that there is a digital output on the iPod connector.

You state in the review that the line out of the universal dock "replicates the headphone ports of color 4G and 5G iPods." Isn't this a big step back from the past docks? They had a true line out jack that had better sound quality than the headphone jack. Now, am I to understand that plugging the ipod into speakers via the headphone port will provide the same quality as plugging into speakers via the line out on the dock?

he means only when you use the remote you can higher or lower the volume

Yes, I believe that being able to adjust the volume means that it is not a true line out. Just want to check with the reviewer, as this is very disappointing.

I just got this. I have the Apple AV cable with composite video out, but I get NO composite video. If I just use the top connector on my 5G I get composite video fine. Maybe my universal dock is broken?
I also tried S-video out and I get video fine doing that. Just looked at Radio Shack part 15-1983 for $20 as I will need that because I have multiple S-video devices feeding my television.

Glad I just bought the dock and not the remote (I can use my universal IR remote for now). One of apple competitors will have a RF remote out in a few months (Kensington maybe), that connects via the docking connector on the bottom, and has a pass through connector.
Effectively I will be able to control everything after I buy that remote.
