Jeremy, your Con says: "No commercial elimination or other editing features."
I've been trimming, editing out commercials and exporting edited portions of a recording for over a year using the EyeTV software. Just click on the "Wheel" features drop down at the top left of the Toolbar and select Edit. Or click on the top right jelly bean when playing a recording. It's all in the manual.
While there is no automatic commercial editing feature, I've set the Controls in the preferences so that Shift-right arrow advances the playhead 30 seconds. So marking the beginning frame of a commercial, I can Shift-right arrow 30 seconds ahead until the commercials end.
I have other problems with the EyeTV software, but editing is definitely an included feature.
Oh, and the Add to Playlist dropdown on the Schedule Info dialog will send recordings to Playlists you set up in EyeTV using the + symbol at the bottom left of the main window, not to iTunes playlists as stated in the article.

Many thanks for the corrections - they've been noted in the piece. Our sample software didn't come with a printed manual (which we generally read before reviews), and the editing feature wasn't obvious, but you're definitely correct: it's there.
