I was given one of these recently and I am pretty impressed by it. I agree that the tiny volume switch is a bit limiting, but the sound quality is surprisingly good from such small speakers. I haven't noticed the left/right issue mentioned (if indeed it's a fault on mine), and I'm pretty sure sound is coming from both speakers at the low setting.
So overall I'm impressed and would rate these higher than C.
